Can you run a lap top without the battery in or with it in but not charged?

Ie plugged into the mains.

Yes. Somebody had a problem at work the other week with her Compaq laptop. Suggested she removed the battery and plugged it in to the mains. Evrything worked fine. Not 100% certain all laptops will work that way.

Its a mate of mine I think he tried that and it didnt want to boot up, wondered if there was a setting in bios or something.:confused:

Yes mine works without battery & with mains:D

Just had a look and its looking bad.

The Laptop is connected to the mains and it shows a mains light on, on a boot up it goes to start and the power light goes out and after a few seconds its dead again.

As soon as its dead the power light comes back on.

Removing the battery results in the power button flickering when pressed and not allowing a boot up.

Any suggestion appreciated.

Aye, it wasn't running it!

OK, seriously now. how far does it get? You need to disable any 'pretty' BIOS screens, as there will be messages that give us clues. look for stuff like 'F2' to disable POST

TBH, Time laptops are teh cheapest stuff going so don't hold out much hope. On the other hand, if ther is stuff on the HD he needs, we can recover that..................
