Re: annoying email
I got 780 spam mails in one day recently - most of it for the same sort of stuff - I dont visit porn sites either.
I have raised a similar thread before and the replies indicate that the only way to stop it is to change your email address and in future be more careful who you supply your email address to. Rather than change my address I make it more manageable by using a free download called Spamhilator |
Re: annoying email
I use gmail and can block them at source, dumped straight to trash without me even having to know they existed.
|
Re: annoying email
Mine does that too......although a couple of kosher e-mails accidentally went into the trash box......the contents of which are routinely dumped every month.

Re: annoying email

Re: annoying email
there is no point keep moving your email address. All they do is bulk force it. ie. they hit all combinations of letters and numbers at well known ISPs. If you have your own domain you tend to not suffer as much as they focus their efforts on the tiscali/Orange's of this world.

Just suppose that you chose susanna as your user name. The spammers then send out spam to susanna1 or 2 etc and also to sus******. They could also actually hit on your username by accident. So to counter them to a great degree, chose a user name of 8 or 9 random characters with a number in the middle. Just make sure that the first few random characters are not the beginning of a real word. For example freswp8qmk. fre is the start of many words so use fnxswp8qmk instead. I can’t think of a single word that starts off with fnxsw, not even a foreign word. Sooner or later the spammers will work out a way to send a spam email to everyone regardless of their user name but in order to find your 10 random character username they would have to try 10 to the power of 36 combinations, that is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. Most ISP’s will allow you to have up to five different email addresses and you can dump the extra four and replace them at any time so don’t use your Primary email address. Use one of your secondary email addresses for things like Internet banking, PayPal, Moneybookers, E-Gold and very important things. Use another as your general purpose email. Sooner or later it will start to get clogged with spam so you just dump it and use another. With no registered email account the spam will have nowhere to go. Of course it will mean you having to contact everyone who has that email address with your new one. But this could give you the opportunity to dump old programmes that you registered with where your request to be deleted from their database has not happened and they still send you offers. You could do the same with web mail. |
Re: annoying email
I have a random letters and numbers email address and one which is the same as my user name here and I still get the same amount of junk on both! It gets dumped straight to spam or trashcan though so I never have to see it unless I go looking.

Yes I know the old ones are the best |
Re: annoying email
They do indeed hit randon names. On a domain they tend to hit admin first and webmaster followed by buyer accounts etc then common names joe jim karren etc I get this on all of my domains unless I set it to reject all unknown users.

Re: annoying email
no idea whats happening with mine , at one time notifications for "accy web" postings came to my regular inbox and I got a pop-up notification , now replies go to my bulk mail box with no notification ,
There also seems to be a tie-in between my 'accy-web" usage and recieving junk mail/spam for wristwatchs, handbags and sexual health aids , they only come/arrive when I am using 'accy-web"  |

In spite of their protestations to the contrary and declarations that they never pass on your details to a third party, many webmasters DO sell on your email address. If you have your own web site no doubt somewhere on it you will have something like “If you want to contact me click on this link”. That is another source of emails for the spammers. Just recently I have been getting spam emails where the header shows that I sent them to myself. Of course I didn’t but if I tag them as spam I could end up not getting legitimate emails. There is no real way to defeat the spammers, just delay them for a while by changing your email address occasionally. It will become known sooner or later but until that happens you will be spam free. |
