trojan = stop using it for anything which uses a password or there is a good chance its sending them all home.

TBH its sounds like you have 2 choices. Get someone who REALLY knows their stuff in to try and rescue it or bit the bullet and rebuild it from scratch

My sister has lots of stuff on it for work and so do the kids - so this would all have to be backed up she has an 80g hard drive and its 75% full roundabout think its something like 73 according to the defrag cos i defragged it last night well left it running anyway dont know if they left it to finish yet.

So you recommend dumping it and reinstalling windows - its either that or she will take it to the shop.

I didn't say take it to a shop, I've yet to find a shop who REALLY knows what they are talking about.

Of that 70 gig, most will be trash. be sensible and safe kids homework, pictures docs etc. the rest is probably junk that has been collated over years

You could offer to put the HD in your PC and copy stuff across if you have space but make sure your AV etc is fully up to date before you do
