Re: more problemos

its a virus

To stop it shutting down keep an MSDOS box open and run

shutdown -a

when it prompts you its about to shut down.

It suggests your firewall isn't on. I can't recall teh name of teh virus, its quite an old one......

Re: more problemos

When you say shutting down, you mean rebooting?

Could be a heat problem.

Mine did that a few times and pcpal found and deleted a virus (trojan), then started again later, checked the heat and it was too warm, tried to blow the fan clear, didnt work, we use air dusters at work (can of air), blew that threw it and has been fine since, except, I did it while it was still warm and think that may be what buggered my speakers up.

Re: more problemos

if its the old virus thing i think it is goto..

control pannel
administrative tools
double click services

scroll down and look for messenger

double click messenger and alter its start up type to disabled

to be honest if you have service pack 1 installed it should be already set to disabled but thats how the old shutdown virus used to get in

is it a box that says system will shut down in 30 seconds and then your pc reboots?

this site is pretty good at removing most problems

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/

jsut click the free check and follow the instructions
