Re: new monitor

My last 3 computers have been Dell.
I once had one where the screen kept going blank - it was due to a poorly fitting connector plug on the lead between tower and monitor, at the monitor end.
An engineer sent by Dell replaced it and remarked that it wasn't the first time he had found this fault.

Re: new monitor

you might be trying to drive it at too high a resolution or one that it doesn't support.

In display settings set it to 800x600 to start

reboot with teh new monitor
if you don't get a picture at that then there is something wrong with hardware, weither connector or teh monitor itself.

if you do you can start increasing the resolution step by step

LCD screens have a "native" resolution at which they are designed to work, anyting other than that gives a slightly blurry screen.

e.g. my laptop has native resolution of 1920x1200, my old one was 1280x800 my work one is 1280x768
