RIP my ACER notebook laptop...
It has been in at the technicians in Intensive Care for nearly a week. The processor has burnt out -will only go up to 45°C before switching off -last ditch attempt to save it by a young enthusiastic technician -will know by Tuesday next...
Beware if you have a lap-top like mine, apparently it's a defect which is coming to light -can't cool the processor adequately. (Probably worse here in Italy because of high summer temps) Have been advised to always keep it elevated WRT the desk and to ventilate externally if it's kept on for long periods of time.. Never use on a soft surface ie sofa or the bed... |
Re: RIP my ACER notebook laptop...
Putting them on a bed or any other none hard flat surface blocks the vents and they burn out.
I cut Rhonda a piece of thin plywood to the same size as her laptop and painted it pink for her. It does not over heat anymore |
Re: RIP my ACER notebook laptop...
niece burnt her netbook out by leaving it on a leather sofa....
it will run for short periods but as soon as you ask it to do anytihng serious it shuts down.... |
Re: RIP my ACER notebook laptop...

Re: RIP my ACER notebook laptop...
We have an Acer laptop which was always overheating. I updated the BIOS and it worked fine after that. Although I worked in IT for 20 years I didn't get too involved with the hardware side so no idea why that should make a difference, I found it on Google while looking for the problem :)

Re: RIP my ACER notebook laptop...
I've seen Laptop mats advertised to combat overheating, have been considering getting one myself because I always use it on my desk and its now hard wired

Re: RIP my ACER notebook laptop...
my sons acer laptop which is a couple of years old started to overheat and shut down last night.I removed the back and noticed that acer had used a bluetack type substance as coolant for the cpu and graphics chip so i cleaned off their coolant and applied my own arctic silver thermal paste and even under a heavy workload playing his game spore theres no heat issue at all now. Before i fixed it the bottom of teh laptop was getting very hot and blowing out pretty hot air.
also a good idea to unblock teh fan and vents of any fluff and dust especially if it has been used on teh bed or even on your lap. i also have a seperate pad that plugs into teh usb port that blows air up into teh laptop which cost me around £12 plus it has some extra usb ports on it as well when i speak to friends in america they often mention that in summer they get overheating issues on both laptops and desktops so install extra fans to desktop computers and buy the underneath pads with fans for tehir laptops |
Re: RIP my ACER notebook laptop...
my son recently purchased an Acer laptop and was told by the seller to keep it on a hard surface

Re: RIP my ACER notebook laptop...
i forgot to mention that some models of acer models were called back on a product reecall
even if your model isnt listed here you can enter either of teh codes tehy ask for and check if yours needs returning Acer Product Advisory it will tell you if you need to return it or not and if so how to return it |
Re: RIP my ACER notebook laptop...
I accidentally poured Diet Coke in my eight month old laptop last night.
It didn't like it. The new one is definitely Nil by Keyboard. |

I didn't just give it a sip. I forced it to drink gallons. :o The new replacement's working. The one that's signed the pledge, and going nowhere near the demon drink. :D:):D |
Re: RIP my ACER notebook laptop...
I hope you have claimed on your home insurance.....well, that is if you have accidental damage cover!
I don't take food or drink anywhere near, either my laptop, or my desktop computer....this is a hangover from my days working at QPH.....no food or drink was allowed near the computers.......and I obeyed! :) |
