Problems with AccyWeb

Starting yesterday, couldn't access Accy Web, it would open then freeze up mouse wouldn't work on any button, program not responding.
Rang Atarah she was having the same problem, now Wallop's has stopped working, rang Mick and he's having a look, having to access the site thro safari, haven't tried Safari before, but I don't like it, makes a right mess of my search for Accrington Pals on Ancestry.
I've now tried Firefox, Goggle, Opera, IE8. and a couple of obscure ones, they all cause problems with Ancestry.

I am not having any problems with the site at the moment.

If you have problems with all those browsers on that Ancestry website it suggests the site has been very poorly written.

Your telling me, it can sometimes take a couple of hours to find some of them, through vagaries of spelling, ie E Lan R, E Lanc R, E. Lancs R. Est Lanc, Est Lancashire & East Lancashire, just for one regiment, then you can get some real corkers in the spelling of surnames.
I've contacted them by email & asked them to get the clown who wrote the code, to include all the variations into East Lancashire, still waiting.
I think the index was written by some body whose 1st language was not English, probably a one eyed Klingon using a Mandarin dictionary.
Ancestry do admit they are having problems with IE8

re: Problems with AccyWeb

As your using IE6 still i would suggest you change the Accyweb colour scheme to blue as it has a lot less stuff to load and might speed up a bit for you
go right to the bottom of the site and in the left hand side is a drop down menu try changing it to the blue and see how you go
but it would be better if you could use an updated browser i use IE9

entwisi 17-10-2011 07:13

re: Problems with AccyWeb

you really should get off IE6 as soon as possible to be honest. Its really not a browser that should be used anymore. If you are Internet Explorer biased then get to IE9 ( you aren't still on XP are you? I recall you had to buy a new PC)

You dont mention Googles "Chrome" browser, have you tried that? Quite a few of the techies I know prefer that. I have always liked Opera as people know, at work I'm forced to use Firefox or IE. TBH probably 90% of my personal browsing is now tablet(Android) based for which I like Dolphin HD

Yes I have a WIN7 computer, can't get my head round all the new phraseology they are using, tried it to access Accy Web in desperation, it worked Ok on that one.
It alright for someone new to computing, they don't know any different, but to me WIN7 is a pain in the backside, can't make moss nor sand of it.
As I said I've tried all the other browsers and when on Ancestry they are a right mess.

Sorry Mick but can't change to blue, the dammed thing freezes as soon as it opens, can't scroll down to change colours.

You are the second user I know who cant get on using Opera mini, I suggested the other tried a different phone browser. What what I understand Opera access the site for you and then send you a modified version that is smaller data wise to your mobile. I could be wrong (often am)

That's correct, Neil. It means you use less of your data allowance and, hence, you have more data time per month.

Entwisi if you play golf and you find a putter you like you have no need to look for a different one, I'm quite happy with IE9 as I have been with its predecessors, so I'm okay as I am;)

I understand - it's the need to be part of the herd.
I admire the people who want to be different.
Materialism is dying a death anyway - soon a watch will be a luxury item.

To be honest Margaret, although I don't go out that much these days and have the time jumping out at me on my computer and TV screen, I still feel naked without my watch, Its the last thing I take of at night and the first thing I put on in a morning

The only time that matters is now.

I appreciate that wage slaves and TV watchers need to know what time it is, but we recluses don't really need to know.
Its only a countdown to the end of physical life.

Re the problem logging on to Accy Web, when I first had the problem I was on Accy Red, Mick advised me to change to Accy Blue, which I was able to do after the 3rd attempt. Been using Accy Blue since then.
Just logged on, and the version has reverted back to Accy Red, for some reason, and its now working OK.
Has the fault been cured
PS Now its back to Accy Red I've noticed the mouse is working better, on Accy Blue I had to double click every thing to open & closed threads.

As far as I could tell there was no fault and nothing has been done to fix anything. It always looked like a problem you had, probably needed to clear a cookie that was causing you a problem. I am not 100% but I think the selection for red or blue is stored as a cookie, with yours going back to red on its own maybe you have cleared cookies and that is why your problem has gone away.

I have a program that clear out internet clutter.
Atarah & Wallop had the same problem.
Atarah's managed to get back on, and wallop after two weeks has finally managed to access Acy Blue.

Looks like that program could be causing problems by deleting things that are needed. May I suggest you remove it for a while and see if your problems go away.

Just been thinking, I have a feeling that most people us accyred, I know mick once told me there was more visible content on the red, but I've always used the blue, if ever there's a problem it always reverts to red (which means it must be the default skin) but I always change it back to blue, its my preference and I find it easier to use
