DeFragging your computer.
 

I've noticed several items in my computer are not in their original folders, today whilst checking for an Accrington Pals file, he could not be found, took the search on win explore 20 mins to tell me the file is not there.
Checked my backup disk, and he was in one of my regular backups.
BACK UP REGULARLY.

Are you saying you defragged your PC and files are now missing or in the wrong place?

How do you backup your data?

Where does it backup to?
If its on your laptop then its probably a waste of time anyway.

Its Dell back up Neil, if I have photos or anything like that they're protected if my computer goes tits up

Yes, using defrag in system tools, I've noticed several times some of my pictures were not in the folders I thought they were in, then today when I wanted the service records of one man, for a check on some information regarding his discharge, he was'nt there, the search in Win explore couldn't find him, found I wasn't dreaming when I checked again on Ancestry.
I then checked the backups on an external hard drive, and he was in one of the many backups I make.

Where does it backup your files to though?
If I come along and nick your laptop, how will you get your files back?

I would suggest you stop using defrag then as it is causing more problems than it is fixing.
It fixing nothing and might speed your PC up a fraction depending on what you use your PC for.
I have not used defrag for years.

I take it from your reply that you have no idea where your files are backed up to and no idea how to get them back so really you have no backup at all.

Neil the only files I have are a couple of letters everything else is backed up on here and another website as that's the only thing I use it for these days;)
