I've got a weird thing tonight
I have no idea how this has happened and just wondering if anyone else has ever had the same experience.
Tonight when I hit the upper case 2 key I get @ and not " which I should get and which is indicated on they key. Also, vice versa when I hit the upper case ' I get " instead of the @. As if that wasn't peculiar enough I have just clicked a smiley for the board and expected it to show up as a small PC - in the text box that is how it appeared, but when I submitted the message it then appeared as a yellow star! OK, I know, it's Hallowe'en and my keyboard is haunted. :p |
Re: I've got a weird thing tonight
You have managed to change the keyboard layout from UK to US (I think its US that has @ on the 2). What OS are you using? If it is XP then down near the clock there shold be a language selection utility. If it isn't there or you are using another version of Windows you need to go into the Control Panel.

Re: I've got a weird thing tonight
I didn't touch anything! It's changed itself ........... either that or my 5ft hallowe'en witch has been on the PC in my absence.
Thanks for the advice entwisi. I shall have a look for the language selection whadjamacallit. |
Re: I've got a weird thing tonight
Hmmmmmmmmmmm..... here's interesting for you.
My selected language is: English (United Kingdom) |

you might also have to re-start your pc if you make changes in there. |
Re: I've got a weird thing tonight
Try in Control Panel look for Keyboard. It is definately a setting in there that has changed.

Actually although I do have XP I don't have that language selection utility down by the clock. I have all manner of other things down there (it's bit customised). However, I did go in via my control panel and like I said a couple of posts ago my selected language was still UK English. I mentioned it to Busman when he came today and he remembered he'd had a similar problem when someone spilt a drink on his keyboard and shortcircuited the thingummies. Realising that the girls had had free reign with the PC while we were at The Stag on Saturday evening I thought a closer examination of the keyboard might be in order and surprise, surprise, there appeared to be a little residue of something on the 2, 3 and ' keys. I switched off. Had a bit of a poke about and then went to do a couple of things in the kitchen. When I came back later and switched on again all is well apart from the errant emoticon which is still producing a gold star instead of a small PC. |
Re: I've got a weird thing tonight
that happened to me last time my comp went in for reformatting but after installing the lgoitech software it went back to normal

Re: I've got a weird thing tonight
Best way to clean a keyboard is to put it through the shower. Seriously!, obviously disconnected from the PC, give it a good wash and then leave it to dry somewhere warm like an airing cupboard or near a radiator(not too close!). As long as its dry when you plug back in it will be perfectly OK.

Re: I've got a weird thing tonight
I usually use a cotton bud soaked in isopropanol. My keyboard doesn't plug in. It's wireless.

Re: I've got a weird thing tonight
Don't you just love wireless keyboards.
One of my optical mice is wireless as well - it came with the keyboard when I got my new computer - I ordered it especially, as I didn't want the usual free rubbish you normally get with new machines |
Re: I've got a weird thing tonight
I love the keyboard but I've got a love-hate relationship with my wireless mouse at the mo. It's faulty and I'm waiting for a replacement. I may have to contact the supplier again if nothing shows up soon.
