Re: pc repair

Sounds like it just needs a new coin battery. How old is it, & what model?

its an hp Compaq 15 months old

Re: pc repair

get the exact model number from underneath the laptop and check both google and hp website to make sure it isnt a common fault and a recall wasnt done or free repair offered

no way should a battery on a computer be dead after 15 months

there may be a bios update that will fix it

does it boot to windows or constantly reboot over and over because it may be saying system memory has changed and bios is updating which could mean a memory stick is faulty

i do a lot of work on laptops and theres many possabilities

Sometimes it boots up ok ,other times it does a bios update about 4 or 5 times before it boots up

Re: pc repair

my guess would be a faulty stick of ram especially if you sit with it on your knee or place it on a surface that prevents good air flow

if your confident enough to do it take out the ram and start it up testing 1 stick of ram at a time.

Where did you buy it from? It's only 15 months old so take it back, ignore the 12 month warranty lies, you are covered under the sale of goods act - unless you bought it from Comet.

Re: pc repair

Yep - if it's only 15 months old, it's unlikely to be the backup battery that's expired after all - unless it's been switched off for the entire time.

I thought that, but I've been corrected recently. You do not lose your rights when a retailer goes out of business. Responsibility for your statutory rights passes back to the manufacturer.

Not sure about that but if you paid by credit card then they have an equal responsibility to your rights under the sale of goods act.

You will probably find the sales people in the shop don't understand your rights so ask for the store manager when they try and fob you off

This may help clarify your rights.
