Barclays Virus!!
 
I received an email disguised as Barclays Bank asking for.......

SECURITY ALERT: Please read this important mesage

Our new security systems will help you to avoid frequently fraud transactions and to keep your investments in safety.

Due to technical update we ask you to confirm your online banking membership details.please fill the form below.

Please follow the link below to fill the form "details confirmation":

http.........I WONT POST THE LINK BEACUSE IT IS A TROJAN!!!!!!!!!!!!


I know some members might have barclays bank accounts but please please do not click on the link in the email as it will try and infect your computer!

I have one of those e-mails practically everytime I got to my e-mail inbox but I don't bank with Barclays so I knew it was dodgey. There's a few others too, one of them being PAY PAL asking to renew your information with them!

I often receive the PayPal one. I believe the technical term for it is "phish". Damn nuisance. If you ever receive anything requesting "account confirmation" and the like don't click the links. Contact the website direct.

Correct, it is called phishing. They seem to come from companies liek eBay, PayPal, Barclays, and others.

I work at Barclays about 20 yds from the Online banking team so I'll mention it to them directly.

If you ever get one of these never click a link. Infact I would go so far as saying never click a link in an email. type the web address yourself as you are then sure it is the proper site. Also all financial data should be on SSL encrypted pages. You should see a padlock in teh bottom of the browser and the address should start https://

Thank you for that i do online bancking with barclays, so i will be aware in future although ive never had an email before.

I got a phishing email from Barclays and Abbey.

The great thing about both of these was that I don't have an account with Barclays, and the one from the Abbey was sent to an email address that I have never told them about.

I get ebay ones sometimes, plus I have had 2 or 3 from CitiGroup (who I also have no accounts with).

I just contact the financial institution and notify them that it is going round. If I have an email address for them I'll forward it on.

Some customers have been receiving an email claiming to be from
Barclays advising them to follow a link to what appear to be a Barclays web
site, where they are prompted to enter their personal Online Banking
details. Barclays is in no way involved with this email and the web site
does not belong to us.
Barclays does not send emails to customers requesting security or any
other confidential information. Please do not reply to any such emails
or follow any links to web sites claiming to be Barclays Online Banking.
If you think you've received a fraudulent email that looks like it's
from Barclays, forward the entire email including the header and footer
to [email protected] and then delete it from your email
account.

Yeh ive had a few from various banks including halifax, barclays n A&L, then u have the paypal/ebay scams n no dis-respect to this site whatsoever as no probs but other forums im on receive mail i've had various trojan/worm virus attached to email addys from those forums n u think its actually them not realising that trojans/worms attach themselves to run off email addys n send spoof mails with virus. MY advice is dont open anything suspicious banks, finance n ebay dont request anything like that via mail n if there is such a prob they'll ring or write letter direct, if in doubt ring the bank/co up just to be sure as these cons are becoming clever n can be believable. Run anti virus progs regular n mail checkers also anti spyware software too.
