For teh Firefox fiends

If you are adventurous/daft/publicspirited enough you can give Firefox 2 alpha a try.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/03...refox_2_alpha/

NB THIS IS SERIOUSLY ALPHA SOFTWARE. IT WILL BREAK. IT MAY NOT WORK AS EXPECTED. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!

But then to say you helped in development gives a certain kudos.

You should be , aplha softawre really is held together with string and cellotape, it does break and often, teh whole point is to find teh problems before 15 millions users start using it in anger.

This is teh beauty of open source software. In teh case of IE you may have a couple of thousand users trying to break it, with OSS you can have millions trying. there is also that within large comapnies teh blame culture often hides things whereas with OSS teh kudos comes from finding a bug and it getting fixed.

Re: For teh Firefox fiends

This isn't an offical alpha release, I think it's just a regular nightly build that got some publicity when someone posted on a blog that it was Alpha :p

I use firefox and Opera under linux with Barclays Online Banking with no problems whatsoever. If your bank chooses to write poor code(and that is what it is if it doesn't work under alternative browsers) then email them and complain.

Re: For teh Firefox fiends

No, I can't be bothered, until they fix it I'll just use ie. Haven't tried opera but I think it said when it refused to work in firefox that it has to be ie.
Firefox still has many problems and is still crashing intermittantly while the local forum open in ie stays open. That said ie crashes intermittantly too.
Until they get web sites tobe web standards compliant they're never going to get firefox up there with ie because it just doesnt work.

Re: For teh Firefox fiends

try OPera, it (as Firefox) can spoof the user agent string to appear as IE. Most of the time these ie only sites work fine. OPera has the option on a menu item so its dead easy to switch as you browse

Re: For teh Firefox fiends

I've got the option to open in ie on firefox. One thing i do like about firefox is the range of plug ins and add ons, inc searches in imdb and dictionary. I prefer to use firefox if im searching wap pages to, but you need a plug in and with opera you don't.
