Digital camera owners

This is a must read page for digital camera owners. Very amusing stuff along wth some good ideas.

Novel uses for digital cameras
http://www.cliffshade.com/dpfwiw/novel.htm

Example one for our globetrotting Roy

jc
... a friend was visiting some eastern European country where the alphabet is strange and the pronunciation even stranger, and he couldn't pronounce the name of the street his hotel was on. So when he needed a taxi to take him back to his hotel, he showed the taxi driver the name of the street.

With a digicam, you can take a picture of your hotel and the nearest street sign, as well as any nearby landmarks, and then show those pictures to your taxi driver or to anyone you might need to get directions from, and this would be even better than just having the address on a piece of paper.

Nice one harry!  :)

after reading  about the guy with piles, & the doggy poo, thought you might like this one!

My 2 youngest boys (14 next week) are like a lot of lads their age, and amused by their bodily functions and the size of log they can produce.  ;D

They take great delight in snapping any outsize ones and displaying them for the family to see!

Not only that, one of them was particularly proud of a giant specimin recently delivered. So much so, he thought it was a hoot to use it as a background picture for their computer.

This I can assure you was swiftly removed!  ;D

Re: Digital camera owners

Just checked out the site, couldn't believe there were so many uses for a digital camera [smiley=lol.gif]
I don't have a digital camera, but am planning on getting one fairly soon, I have absolutely no idea what to buy. My present camera is a simple point and click Olympus trip. I have always wanted a decent camera. Any advice on what to look at, and consider before buying would be most welcome. [smiley=help.gif]

HarryX 22-10-2003 19:39

Re: Digital camera owners

Nowt wrong with point'n'click :)

What to buy?  A lot depends on what you want to do with it and what your requirements are. Different cameras lend themselves to different areas.. I know the ones for sport in daylight conditions requiering a decent zoom.  But these would be little use indoors or night pics..

On the other hand cameras for portraits and darker situations wouldn't be good for other areas..

Of course you can get a camera that does most things but then your getting ito the 800 quid ++ areas.

All depends what your thinking of doing wiht it :)

Re: Digital camera owners

I'll have to look around and see what's out there really. I don't take any specialised photos. Obviously all my piccies are special to me, family, friends etc. Like photographing places I've been to and have lots of scenery/mountain shots, which mean nothing to anyone else as there are no people on them, but I like to remember these places and views and beautiful scenery.
Found that some of the nicest most detailed shots are the ones you can buy for a couple of quid at local shops - got some great ones of Mt Blanc district in Chamonix the other year, and my photos didn't come out anything like those. :-/

Re: Digital camera owners

The s5000 is a newish model but the 2800 has been replaced with the S304 so i think them prices will fall

Re: Digital camera owners

This is the page I was looking for, good for reviews on camera's http://www.digital-camera-reviews.info/html/digital-camera-reviews-brands.cfm

Mick 24-10-2003 20:20

Re: Digital camera owners

e-buyer seems cheapest yet thanks
do you know anyone that has bought from them before
what i meen is are they reliable
still not sure which one the memery cards i already have will fit in the 2800 so there is this point to think about if i go for the 5000 then i will need a bigger card but i have a 64 meg card that will fit the 2800

K.S.H 24-10-2003 21:00

Re: Digital camera owners

Dont know about e-buyer, never used them.
Card for 2800 is smartmedia card and can go up to 128meg
S5000 is the new XD card, can go up to 256meg at the moment but bigger cards are due soon

Mick 24-10-2003 21:10

Re: Digital camera owners

thats what i was saying already got 64meg smartmedia card but the s5000 comes with a d type 16meg card so i would have to get a bigger one
the 64 meg would do me for now

K.S.H 24-10-2003 21:18

Re: Digital camera owners

If you do go ahead with ebuyer just make sure you use your credit card, that way if anything does go wrong you can always do a chargeback. You had a Fuji before? I have 2, very happy with them both, the models you are going for are not pocket camera's and are a bit bulky, thats why i kept my old one

Mick 24-10-2003 21:21

Re: Digital camera owners

yes i know i have a finepix 201 good little camera ;D

Mick 26-10-2003 06:53

Re: Digital camera owners

Why is it these days when you go to buy a new camera you have to spend another £20 upwards to get a case for it .
they used to come with one.
what a rip off ???

Caz 26-10-2003 07:03

Re: Digital camera owners

Think anyone buying a digital camera for the first time needs to be aware of the extra expense.
Camera case, batteries & battery charger. Plus of course larger memory card.
Mine only came with 8 meg which is practically useless!

Mick 26-10-2003 07:05

Re: Digital camera owners

yep i had to get a 64 meg card cost extra £20

Caz 26-10-2003 07:07

Re: Digital camera owners

I got a smartmedia 128 meg for £21.69. :)

Mick 26-10-2003 07:09

Re: Digital camera owners

These Fuji's just get better and better,on my 3rd one now. just bought an S20 at a good price and the pics are excellent, been comparing all day with the S304 and everything is looking good and only been in auto mode so far. As usual though - no case with this one either

Acrylic-bob 04-08-2004 16:05

Re: Digital camera owners

I have a fuji finepix and I don't really recommend them. The lens is so small that it sufferes from exagerated spherical aberation and for some reason best known to itself it insists on rendering red as lurid orange. The flash isn't much cop either. It comes with rechargeable batteries, but you have to buy the charger separately, and you cannot get replacement batteries for love nor money. All in all it is probably better spending a bit extra on Canon or Pentax, which is what I hope to be doing soon.

Anyone interested in a Fuji Finepix, going cheap?????

Mick 04-08-2004 16:37

Re: Digital camera owners

Fuji finepix what? and what price
the wife is after one she wont touch mine in case she brakes it hehe
rechargables can be got at argos get the better ones its worth the extra
i think they are about £11.50p for four
the one i have finepix s5000 takes 4 so i have 8 four always on charge and four in the camera

Any reasoning? I was quite happy with my Fuji S602 until I played with your flash...

When I used to have the smaller fuji's, I also had problems with the lense - sticking out to far whenever I dropped it, thats the only trouble with them! :)

KIPAX 04-08-2004 18:52

Re: Digital camera owners

no ttl for the flash :)
no image stabalisation
needs a tube to protect it
you own one
hehehehe

grrr - true, even though you only found out what it meant last week :)

grrrr - indeed - a must have on my next camera, we live and learn!

Quote:

Due to living and learning, yes, true again!! 10 pound tube saves 400 pound lens! Makes sense really! :)

Have to admit I haven't looked at current mid range fuji's, but I'm sure they will have ttl'd and stabalised by now - I hope so cos I do want these features in my next camera and I am very happy with my current Fuji's so want to stick with them!

Re: Digital camera owners

Just bought my first digi camera and got it on ebay! Brand new, with case, instructions and software, A Praktica DCZ with over 6 million pixels (which I have been told is good) for £70-00
All I have to do now is to learn how to put the photo's on to the Accy web!!!!

janet 21-08-2004 14:17

Re: Digital camera owners

I too also bought a camera off ebay paid £35 for it a jenoptik 2.1 pixels which i thought would be o.k for me as i dont take many picks. Only trouble is i cant transfer photos off the sd card to my p.c only the ones using the internal memory, so i have bought a card for nowt, think i was ripped off with the camera.also tried a different card so i know it's not the card that's knackered.

janet 21-08-2004 15:30

Re: Digital camera owners

I have emailed the person i bought the camera from about the fault, he said that it was not compatable with windows xp and that he only used the internal memory and that's why he sold it. Funny that was not mentioned when selling the camera. So be warned if buying from ebay so you don't get ripped off. You live and learn .

Mick 21-08-2004 15:54

Re: Digital camera owners

if you want to sell it janet Anne is after a cheap one and she is on 98se so it should be ok

K.S.H 21-08-2004 16:38

Re: Digital camera owners

janet, your other option is to buy a card reader, they are only about £5

Bazf 21-08-2004 18:33

Re: Digital camera owners

Janet as an active user of ebay please fill in the user comments when you get the email so that less people will get ripped off, its a valuable tool so that people can check on other people. I bought off someone with a 100% satisfaction then found out that other people hadnt complained so this guy wasnt all he was cracked up to be. Also its completely anonymous so you shouldnt feel bad.

janet 21-08-2004 22:27

Re: Digital camera owners

Thanks K.S.H might just give that a try. Are they easy to install and use.?

Yeah, with windows XP they just plug into your usb port, you dont even need to load the drivers as windows has its own

I opted for a 6in1 card reader in the new Laptop Janet and i've never looked back. I know that sparkie and Roy also have them, weve used them for transfering all kinds of stuff not just photo's so i can assure you they are value for money.
