Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
Anyone using this ISP to connect to the internet having problems this week?
|
Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
Intermittent problems for past 2 weeks. Goes off for short periods of time, a couple of times last week it was overnight for 2 weeks running.

Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
Early Sat am I couldnt get a connection. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Speedtouch. I eventually phoned tech support to be told that BT were upgrading the line and it would mean I would get 6 megs instead of 1. I havent seen that yet.

Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
I know someone who is on BT Broadband and they were having problems yesterday.

Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
I have been searching for a better provider today and found Plusnet @£12.99.(am paying £17.99 up to now)
When I phoned Orange to get my MAC code they have sweet talked me into staying with them by offering me a new package which is only available to existing customers- wireless, 7+meg, at £12.99 a month with one month free. I asked when the BT work on my line would be completed and was told 'just another 48 hours'. So on Friday I will have my wireless equipment and a faster connection --will pigs fly?---we will see :) |

Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
Not being very 'techie' I hope this is humour.
I have both a desktop and a laptop and hope to use them both - laptop in bedroom on days when I feel the need to surf from my adjustable bed :D |
Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
I have decided to cancel this wireless install. After reading about the hacking risks the ability to surf in my adjustable bed is not worth the loss of my 'peace of mind'

Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
If I get cut off once today I will be cancelling, sod it the trouble I've had with them over the last two weeks they can sod off I'm cancelling anyway. I had no trouble when it was Freeserve but since it bacame Orange it's a joke. Anyone looking for a new ISP stay clear of these cowboys.

By this time I was totally peed off and when they started asking more questions about who I was moving to I swore. 3 days now no code, I get ten minutes online then it cuts out and lets me have bursts of 15 seconds if I'm lucky. I'm typing this offline in the hope the page will load and this message will be posted. BE WARNED DO NOT MOVE TO ORANGE AS YOUR ISP !!! |
Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
Yeh bagpuss i had that hassle also with my mac code - assured to get it via email asap, but that took over 24hrs to come thro - tho i didnt get the sweet talk as they were big headed enough to lose my custom cos they were transfering to be Orange - even had the cheek to snigger at me going to BT!! Yeh i might pay a bit extra but least it meant i got upto 8mg connection speed running at 7/7.5 atm whereas after many years with wanapoo/freeserve i never got passed 1 meg mainly 512K after empty promises of improving to 2meg that never happened - my line doesn't go down connection except briefly now & again for hub upgrade but no longer than 1/2 hr so far, if any probs its free to ring for support or help - not national rates like Orange!! Also more helpful!
Do i need to go on ?? PMSL!!:D |
Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
i never have problems with mine:D
|
Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
I have just got my internet connection back after downtime of
THIRTY HOURS!!!! |
Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
All of a sudden after all the downtime and frequent disconnection - my speed had gone up from 1.1 to 4.1 (still on Orange ADSL) looks like the BT work has finished (except I have had to reconnect 3 times in 10 minutes)

Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband

Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
Margaret,
Wireless networks once configured are as safe as they need to be. There are three steps that you need to do, 1 enable WPA encryption, this makes sure all network traffic is encrypted and is of a standard that would take a few years with a lot of CPU power to crack. remember all financial stuff is also encrypted using SSL which has yet to be broken. 2) Lock to known MAC addresses. each network card has a special code number, you can tell your router to only accept connections from 'your' network cards 3) change teh SSID(Network name) to something hard to guess, e.g. m4ragr3! and then set it to hidden so people can't see it. Do the above (10 mins tops) and you are as safe as you need to be. If someone decided that they really wanted your PC info they would just kick your door in and take teh PC away. |
Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
Out of interest who's your ISP entwisi ?
|
Re: Orange (Freeserve) Broadband
I was with Pipex for ~5 years but moved to Orange as I get it free as I have a mobile contract with them.
A few minor outages but generally been OK, pipex were faultless in teh wole time but £25/month is still £25 a month |
