fed up of kids scratching my dvds so i have started making back up copies for my own use only just so kids dont scratch any more.some of my dvds are copey protected is there any way of copeying these dvds thanks

Yes is the simple answer, how is more difficult s there are different copy protection methods.

BTW Neil, I'm happy for peeps to make copies for backup/stop teh kids ruining originals :D

Probably a couple, I guess you want Windows based ones?

DVD Shrink seems to have a good reputation as a starting point.

Try anydvd, it removes copy protection so you can then copy the DVD easily with something like CloneDVD

You know it is still a grey area.

LAst I heard it was no longer grey. You can make personal backups for this exact purpose you just can't keep them if you sell teh original.

Nope its still very grey. Some copyright holders are now claiming that copyright on an item covers the data and the media it is stored on, and that removing the data to a different media (even say from a DVD to another DVD) is not covered by the copyright law.

One of the test cases flying around is a guy who copied a CD to use in his car so that if his car got broken into he wouldnt lose his original.
