what would be the prefered linux cd to use for a trial run

Or Mandriva

are specifically aimed at new users.

There are a number of Ubuntu users on accyweb so probably better going with that. Persoanlly I have used both those plus Gentoo, OPen Suse, Fedora and a few other 'lesser known' ones

That's odd, the linux servers i've introduced at work look nothing like windows..... in fact, they run from a command line interface so I don't have to use the mouse to do things that are quicker to do with a keyboard.

Server 2008 looks more like Vista, so lets use all the resources up to run fancy graphics that are of no use to anyone on a server, but look nice. That's a good idea Mr Gates. We like pretty resource hungry graphics...
