Re: laptop help

Try starting up in Safe Mode - I think you need to press F10 as soon as you switch it on.
If not I'm sure someone will correct me! :D

Other than that it may be dead.....

Re: laptop help

If it was powered up when dropped it probably means teh Hard disk is knackered. they are quite resilient when powered down but when actually running all hard disks are fragile as eggs.

you can check teh rest of teh laptop is OK by using a live CD from teh likes of UBUNTU. download teh disk and burn it or if your local and can pick up a disk I'll make one for you.

If teh rest of teh lappy is OK then a new disk is anyting from about £40 upwards. you would of course need to reinstall everything but I 'might' be able to save data thats on it if you haven't backed it up. PS I have yet to see a local computer shop(or PC World fopr that matter) that have any idea on data recovery so please don't trust what they say if there is anything of value on that disk.

You might be able to claim for the laptop on your 'contents' house insurance.
I had an accident with my digital camera earlier this year......when I checked the insurance policies I found that I could claim for the damage

I was just going to say that, Margaret.

I have claimed on my home insurance for a laptop in the past.

Hubby was taking it upstairs when he dropped it and it fell all the way to the bottom of the stairs.:(

They sent someone to collect it, had a look at it, decided it could not be repaired and issued a replacement quickly and without fuss. :)

Take it back to him and explain what happened............He is one of the more honest traders you will meet......If it can be fixed he will tell you.
