it allows you to 'program' your phone really easily to do anything you like

for those with Programming experience its VERY easy and very powerful.

It does beg something that struck me about phones and evidence in criminal cases though. I can program it to answer a call or even make one at a predetermined time and play a 'pre recorded' message. I could leave the phone somewhere and still 'make a call' the cell info would have 'proved' I was somewhere I might not have been.

What do you reckon....

The same has existed for windows mobile in the SDK for a while..Dont know if its ever been tested in case law.

im sure some tech would find evidence of the software been installed at some point by performing file recovery on the data disk

but they wouldn't if I flashed the firmware after the event( as is quite easy to do with Nokias) The flash memory woulde be clear and a 'second' memory card with teh same data minus teh mshell stuff would look identical to the phone

Out of interest, I'm going to have a switch to Windows mobile for a change when the HTC Touch Pro comes out, do you have any experience of it? Whats good freeeware/shareware etc is there? Any absolute must haves?

I've collected loads of stuff for Symbian over teh last 2 and a bit years,

Last three phones were an orbit, orbit II (touch cruise) and stellar (TYTN II). All three were slow out of the box, but goto forum.xda-developers.com for loads of info, roms and apps. Recommend a lot of the HTC stuff if it doesnt come preloaded on the phone.

Next one is iphone 3g on 11th July so I guess Ill be going the other way from you.

You will not be happy with windows mobile. It is pants. I agree with banjoman though, if you get a HTC definitely go to xda-developers as it is full of useful windows mobile tuning goodness.

Now wouldn't it be good if someone somewhere could come up with a phone operating system that runs fast out of the box and works well?

Forgot to mention the best program available on windows mobile, pocketputty! Login to your linux boxes from anywhere! As long as you get one with a decent keyboard that is....

Wifi, Bluetooth
A-GPS
Accelerometer
decent 4-5M camera with Xenon flash
lots of internal system RAM and expandable data storage

Oh, did I mention battery life of 1 week as well :D

3G iPhone would be good if it had a decent camera(i.e. over 2M and a flash at very least) and Bluetooth.

I always wanted a 2 in 1 device...ie a big screen (say 3.5") and full keyboard, but that you could just pull out a little phone if you were going out somewhere and didnt want the whole shooting match. Bit like Russian dolls, one inside the other somehow.

why not just get a nokia internet tablet and Bluetooth it via your mobile in your pocket?

just got my Voda contract sorted so now have a decent 3G data package so I thought I'd have a go setting up my old N80 as a bluetooth Modem


just set up rfcomm to attach it as /dev/rfcomm0

(for info heres the contents, I've masked my b/t addy)

/etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf

add a wvdial.conf file

heh, I've bought an e90 communicator to see me on till teh Touch Pro is out and then I'll decide which I prefer. Only been playing for teh one night but so far I'm impressed!!!
