Lg cookie help!

Anyone got this phone and had problems sending texts? Just encountering just that atm. I have gone into settings for the text service centre no, which is blank so figure thats the problem, so checked my service provider and tried to enter the number which is correct - and hey presto it WONT SAVE IT saying failed. Help? Please if there's a way to correct this problem without having to resort to premium rate calls. Seems im not only one with the prob as my daughter's mate has same model and can't send texts either :( TIA
