android tablet usb adaptor?
1 Attachment(s)
Bought myself an android tablet yesterday and i need to buy a usb adaptor for it BUT i haven't a clue where it would go, the only ones i have seen on Amazon have chunky ports to be attached to the tablet, i don't have any chunky ports HELPPPPP
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Shaz if you can put a clearer pic of the ports on here then it may be some help in advising you what you need to get.

I am posting a pic of my android tablet.....so you can see what my usb connector port looks like.
Is there anything on your tablet that looks like this? |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Looks like you might need something like this to go into that hole to give you a USB port first.

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Sue....I might be mistaken her, but those devices are to connect to the internet.....I know they have USB ports on them too, but I would have thought that there was a'host'
port...which is what connects to your computer via the USB. My tablet connects wirelessly to the internet.......though I don't use it much for the internet...more to show Ma things(pics - emails from my sister and brother). Shaz, were there no instructions with your tablet? |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
I bought the tablet off someone on facebook, no instructions, it works fine, the ports are headphones, charger, sd card and there's another but its very slim

I thought that the 30 or 24 pin bit stuck into the tablet and that gave you a "normal" USB port. Like this: Pocketables – Samsung USB Connection Kit for Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus/7.7/8.9/10.1 review Might help if she'd said what sort of tablet it is, or maybe I'll give up now... |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
All it says on the box is MID, thats the make

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Lots of Mid reviews on Youtube, they all seem to have this device sticking out the side... as I mentioned in post 4 - did you not get one with it?

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
MID is just an acronym for Mobile Internet Device......these unbranded tablets are Ok but the instruction booklets are as much use as a chocolate teapot.
Mine is a MID too...but it is supposed to have the guts of a Samsung tablet......but I have no way of checking this. The long slot on your tablet has the icon for USB...but I do not recognise the connectionport...it is nothing like mine. Shaz....I suggest you ask Mick. He might be able to help...he is a mine of information, especially when it comes to stuff like this. |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
That long port in the pic is not a USB
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
marg, thats exactly what i thought, it's the only place one can go though, i've just ordered a keyboard and case off amazon, thats why i needed to know where and what to get, the tablet only cost me £35 and only came with the charger and the box, i'm not really bothered about it, it does everything it's supposed to do, other than the things with the usb, i might take it down to a pc shop later and ask if they know
thankyou everyone for helping |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Looking at the blurred photo none of those ports are USB
the one on the right looks like a power charging port the second one looks like a memory card slot the third looks like a head phone jack not sure of the one on the far left and Margaret the port in your photo the arrow is too is not a USB port the one on the right next to the memory slot looks more like a USB port |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
From left to right it is charger, headphones, long thin thing and memory slot
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
I know none of the ports are usb mick, thats why i was asking in the first place
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
They are mini USB ports and to make a keyboard/mouse work you need a USB OTG (on the go) cable. We do this with siobhans tablet for her. The final port on the right is a hdmi port for putting the image out to a big screen/TV.
Have a look at dealextreme.com for a cable, they come from Hong Kong and usually are here in about a week. I use them for all sorts of things. |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Where would the otg cable go though Ian?
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
you are right Mick, it has two ports that are similar......one labelled OTG...the other HOST....and it is the OTG port that I use to connect up to my desktop....but it was really to show Shaz the shape of the port.......I mislabelled it when I put the pic on.(my name should be daft Ada)
Anyway....I knew you would know more and be able to advise....whereas I am only useful as a bad example :D |

Right - this has exactly the same arrangement of ports as on Flashy's tablet - plus it comes with an adaptor similar to what I posted in post 4. Surely that is what she's missing? :bangh8: :idunno:

But when I ordered the sata to ide adapter to put a larger sata hd in my xbox they never came in a week. I was waiting three months! |

Yes that is the one Susie.
It looks like the tablet should have had one of those with it. Quote:

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
No its not the same one

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
But the same socket for the usb. Looks like you also need the adapter if you want to connect the tablet to a wired connection(Ethernet) ?
|

Oh i don't piggin know lol i only want to get something to stick in it so i can use the sodding keyboard i've ordered

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
The link susie posted is the cheapest I can find online. Id go with that.
Ordering a keyboard for a tablet speaks volumes to how you use a pc. That is not a joke. I would do the same thing. I was looking at a notebook other day and its tiny keyboard. I said to the shop owner "I would end up plugging in keyboard in that thing" But I am tempted to buy a notebook as i am going to college in September to retake English. I really hate this whole touch screen revolution. I read that M$ are going to code in windows8 that you can't remove the metro crap. I can't see myself ever using a virtual keyboard, touching the screen at my pc desk at home. But I find myself wanting one of those tablets. How are you liking yours? Quote:

and who would want to sit there with a tablet, by the window where the router is plugged in. (my phone sockets always seem to be by the window)

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Mine picks up wireless very well. I bought mine a good while ago - I wasn't sure if I would like it so I didn't spend a lot on it. I have used it quite a bit....definitely got my moneys worth out of it.
I was perplexed though when putting an Sd card in it and it kept telling me to 'mount' my Sd card........I had to check out Youtube to find out what this meant. The instructions that came with the tablet are just useless. It was a steepish learning curve for me...but hey...if you are learning you know you aren't dead:D. |

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Mine is supposed to have the guts that they put in the Samsung Tablet(I can't check it so they could tell me anything) I suppose you get what you pay for
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
I don't actually have the internet at home, i just pick up mi dads wifi from next door, it's passworded so only me and dad can get on it, my tablet picks it up fine as does mine and Reece's laptop, i bought the tablet for train journeys, my laptop gets a bit heavy when carrying it around all the cities i get to, i want it for the kindle app too, i think its wonderful and more than definately worth the £35 i paid for it
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
I have had mine for a couple of years and it is great for showing Ma pics......and for her to read the e-mails from my brother and sister out in Oz. I have had my moneysworth if I never touched it again....if it broke I would defininitely want to get another one.....perhaps a branded one this time with better info on how to use.
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Android has become a really good OS too. Perhaps one day al get one.
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
i think this might be what i need, i tried Reece's ipod charger in that slot last night and it fit
would this make it into a usable usb for my tablet? Camera Connection Kit for IPAD2 iPad3 Dock Connector to USB Host OTG Adapter | eBay |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Did you try it to see if the USB works?
It looks like it might be a goer...personally I would wait to see if the keyboard plugs into it when it arrives....and more importantly, see if it works. Now you know what lind of adapter you need then I'm sure you would be able to pick one up from e-bay. |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
The keyboard arrived today and it's not got a usb lead on it, it has a tiny end on it, the end that goes into a 'normal' android tablet....so now i need the iphone bit that goes into mi tablet but it has to have a small female end on the other side......i give up
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Apologies, but what exactly are you trying to do flashy ?
Bullet points will do ! lol ! :o) |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
if you tried reading the thread then you'd know
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Thought so....
I did, it made no sense what so ever... Hope you got it sorted anyway. |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Thats a bummer with the keyboard.
whats the end that goes in a normal tablet? |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Its the small one, the one that would fit into Margarets tablet (as shown in the photo) it's reet, i'll sort it, somehow
|

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
You need one of these

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Oh my. Why would they put that horrible connector on there(the rectangular one)
how damn strange is that! you think you would have this on the end of the keyboard. The type that fits into this 24 pin Ethernet USB Adapter RJ45 Connector Android Tablet PC Epad *Free P&P* | eBay This is what you need to go in that rectangular slot. all you needed was this and then you could fit any USB keyboard into it. But. I like this keyboard you have for it. It fits the tablet nicely Also you need what susie suggest to actually plug that cable into the above. Oh man what a headache only £6.52 to go :) |

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
This is my exact problem Rob, its not a 'normal' port on a tablet lol now can you see why i've ranted on for so long about it
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
haha. I know. Even this cheapy notepad/tablet that I posted link to has normal usb ports.
I am going to buy one of these cheapos just for the sake of it. I think you can boot linux based systems(from sd card) it might even run android 4.0. |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Ignore the long one just plug it into the small usb port on the tablet ?

It was in Chinese language when I turned it on :D but that is very easily fixed in android. |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
haha.
What phone do you have? Well the ICS custom roms work fine. The guy over at XDA(whos previous rom I used) just introduced himself on his new rom release. Hes 14 years old!. Hes 14 and he builds a better firmware than sony can. Thats crazy, but true. the phone is 100% more pleasurable to use; smoother, faster, more ram spare and slightly better battery. Been trying out jelly bean roms. They are ok. BUT MMS isnt working. :( |
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and a Note 10.1, both should be getting Jelly Bean soon ish
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Yeah can't see point in modding those
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
I'm using the MildWild variant of Cyanogenmod on a HTC Desire. It's generally better than the ROM that it came with originally. The camera is much worse, but it's not a problem: I have loads of real cameras - I don't use the one on my phone for serious stuff...
|
Re: android tablet usb adaptor?
Yeah on the JB based rom the camera suffers. Sony wont make the camera open source so they have a petition for it hhehe.
