android tablet usb adaptor?

1 Attachment(s)
Bought myself an android tablet yesterday and i need to buy a usb adaptor for it BUT i haven't a clue where it would go, the only ones i have seen on Amazon have chunky ports to be attached to the tablet, i don't have any chunky ports HELPPPPP

Shaz if you can put a clearer pic of the ports on here then it may be some help in advising you what you need to get.

I am posting a pic of my android tablet.....so you can see what my usb connector port looks like.
Is there anything on your tablet that looks like this?

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?

Looks like you might need something like this to go into that hole to give you a USB port first.

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?

Sue....I might be mistaken her, but those devices are to connect to the internet.....I know they have USB ports on them too, but I would have thought that there was a'host'
port...which is what connects to your computer via the USB.
My tablet connects wirelessly to the internet.......though I don't use it much for the internet...more to show Ma things(pics - emails from my sister and brother).
Shaz, were there no instructions with your tablet?

flashy 11-08-2012 21:02

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?

I bought the tablet off someone on facebook, no instructions, it works fine, the ports are headphones, charger, sd card and there's another but its very slim

It was only an example that I came across on ebay.

I thought that the 30 or 24 pin bit stuck into the tablet and that gave you a "normal" USB port. Like this:

Might help if she'd said what sort of tablet it is, or maybe I'll give up now...

Don't know if this is like yours but it comes with a device that looks exactly like one of the ones I posted in post 4.

What bits and pieces did yours come with?

Lots of Mid reviews on Youtube, they all seem to have this device sticking out the side... as I mentioned in post 4 - did you not get one with it?

MID is just an acronym for Mobile Internet Device......these unbranded tablets are Ok but the instruction booklets are as much use as a chocolate teapot.
Mine is a MID too...but it is supposed to have the guts of a Samsung tablet......but I have no way of checking this.
The long slot on your tablet has the icon for USB...but I do not recognise the connectionport...it is nothing like mine.
Shaz....I suggest you ask Mick. He might be able to help...he is a mine of information, especially when it comes to stuff like this.

marg, thats exactly what i thought, it's the only place one can go though, i've just ordered a keyboard and case off amazon, thats why i needed to know where and what to get, the tablet only cost me £35 and only came with the charger and the box, i'm not really bothered about it, it does everything it's supposed to do, other than the things with the usb, i might take it down to a pc shop later and ask if they know

thankyou everyone for helping

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?

Looking at the blurred photo none of those ports are USB
the one on the right looks like a power charging port the second one looks like a memory card slot the third looks like a head phone jack
not sure of the one on the far left
and Margaret the port in your photo the arrow is too is not a USB port the one on the right next to the memory slot looks more like a USB port

flashy 12-08-2012 08:42

From left to right it is charger, headphones, long thin thing and memory slot

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?

They are mini USB ports and to make a keyboard/mouse work you need a USB OTG (on the go) cable. We do this with siobhans tablet for her. The final port on the right is a hdmi port for putting the image out to a big screen/TV.

Have a look at dealextreme.com for a cable, they come from Hong Kong and usually are here in about a week. I use them for all sorts of things.

flashy 12-08-2012 10:37

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?

Where would the otg cable go though Ian?

Margaret Pilkington 12-08-2012 10:48

Re: android tablet usb adaptor?

you are right Mick, it has two ports that are similar......one labelled OTG...the other HOST....and it is the OTG port that I use to connect up to my desktop....but it was really to show Shaz the shape of the port.......I mislabelled it when I put the pic on.(my name should be daft Ada)
Anyway....I knew you would know more and be able to advise....whereas I am only useful as a bad example :D

No it goes in the long thin slot next to the two round ones - not to be too technical about it. For less than four quid on ebay it's got to be worth a punt.

The link susie posted is the cheapest I can find online. Id go with that.

Ordering a keyboard for a tablet speaks volumes to how you use a pc. That is not a joke. I would do the same thing. I was looking at a notebook other day and its tiny keyboard. I said to the shop owner "I would end up plugging in keyboard in that thing" But I am tempted to buy a notebook as i am going to college in September to retake English.

I really hate this whole touch screen revolution. I read that M$ are going to code in windows8 that you can't remove the metro crap. I can't see myself ever using a virtual keyboard, touching the screen at my pc desk at home.

But I find myself wanting one of those tablets. How are you liking yours?

Mine picks up wireless very well. I bought mine a good while ago - I wasn't sure if I would like it so I didn't spend a lot on it. I have used it quite a bit....definitely got my moneys worth out of it.

I was perplexed though when putting an Sd card in it and it kept telling me to 'mount' my Sd card........I had to check out Youtube to find out what this meant.
The instructions that came with the tablet are just useless. It was a steepish learning curve for me...but hey...if you are learning you know you aren't dead:D.

Rob, couldn't agree more. Touchscreen just does not appeal to me at all. But I do like my little notebook/netbook/laptop whatever you like to call it. Have been watching bits of the Olympics on it and it's great -as is the BBC website, can more or less watch anything when you want.

So Rob why do you want a tablet...??

None of those reviews must have been playing with the MID tablet I have here. WOW for £46(here it would be £100) new you CANNOT complain especially at this kind of performance. Comes with ICS; latest android version(of which is stable) and works really well. Much better than some phones I have seen.

It was in Chinese language when I turned it on :D but that is very easily fixed in android.

A lot of these generic tablets you get here in catalogues and stuff are the same kind of tablet only branded with a different name

I bought it for my mothers birthday(sunday) thankfully it arrived within 3 weeks and just in time :) I think she will be really happy with this.

What phone do you have?

Well the ICS custom roms work fine. The guy over at XDA(whos previous rom I used) just introduced himself on his new rom release. Hes 14 years old!. Hes 14 and he builds a better firmware than sony can. Thats crazy, but true. the phone is 100% more pleasurable to use; smoother, faster, more ram spare and slightly better battery.

Been trying out jelly bean roms. They are ok. BUT MMS isnt working. :(

Yeah on the JB based rom the camera suffers. Sony wont make the camera open source so they have a petition for it hhehe.
