PS2 game prob?

My son bought a game for PS2 & it wont load up proper, saying 'please insert format disk'

What does that mean???? We tried wiping memory card to no avail.:(

is it scracthed at all??? other than that is you sons ps2 chipped??? if not how old is the ps2?

Im not sure if its chipped - probably as he got his ps2 last xmas, game isnt a copy either:confused:

not chipped as in a bit broken off i mean chipped as in somehing done to it so it can read illegal/copied games?? :)
