steve cottril had no championship league experience at all as you put it but they still gave him the job..and the guy in question used to play for bolton so theoretically he has league experience.. and just because he has plyed his trade in scotland do you not think he hasnt been to the championship to watch games (scouting)? - of course he will have..
and I actually think he will do well as he's a good man manager he knows the game inside out..and it is a bold and both brave move by burnley - I have a lot of time for owen coyle and I may bob along and see him...say hello again:cool:...
and to the other poster who mentioned him playing for the republic...being scottish doesnt matter:confused: - he had irish parentage...therefore he qualified...how many english players play for both eire and the republic...more than you think..
I am not a burnley fan by any stretch but I will take an interest in them whilst mr coyles at the helm..

I think the previous reference was to the fact that OC has no English league experience at all as a manager, whereas Cotterill did have, not just at Championship level.

I think thats a good summing up.:)

I think that and his ambition is probably what got him the job. He seems to be well liked in the game, and a recommendation from Alex McLeish is testament to that.

Good Luck Owen, and welcome to Dingle land :D:D

the guy is mr scottish football..he has been around since I was a youngster going games in scotland and he only stopped playing a couple of seasons ago  - there wont be a player he doesnt know about in scotland and he also spent time in holland studying ajaxs training set up and with borrusia dortmund to look at their youth development set up in order to get his coaching badges so he is fairly clued up on the game all in all - I really dont think not knowing the championship will daunt him..but it will be interesting to see if he brings any scottish players down with him as he's good at finding youngsters...
all in all burnley done their homework on him and may see the potential..
