Re: Gerrard is innocent
You could have knocked me over with a feather, Liverpool footballer found "Not Guilty" at Liverpool Crown Court, was Ken Dodd on the defence team?
Still it's good to know you can run across to somebody sat on a bar stool and punch them in the face three times just to be on the safe side |

The 4 or 5 others who were with him, including a couple of Accrington Stanley players, pleaded guilty to affray..........but not Steven Gerrard, he probably knew if he went on trial he would get off so why admit it? They wouldn't hold the Soham trial in Cambridgeshire as it was considered to be impossible to find a jury who could be impartial. It had to be done at the Old Bailey with the jury drawn from that area. So, why was the Gerrard case heard at Liverpool Crown Court? Not that I am comparing Steven Gerrard to Ian Huntley of course, just wondering why they would hear the case in Liverpool with a jury from Liverpool in a case against one of their idols. |

and I don't think he asked for his legal fees either, be interesting to see if the victim takes out a Civil Action or has he been promised some compensation?

" by Alan Weston, Liverpool Echo Jun 27 2011 Share LIVERPOOL FC captain Steven Gerrard received more than £300,000 from public funds in the form of reimbursed legal fees following his acquittal over an affray charge. A jury at Liverpool Crown Court acquitted Gerrard of unjustly attacking businessman Marcus McGee in the Lounge Inn, Southport, on December 29, 2008. Gerrard admitted hitting him but denied affray, saying it was in self-defence. Around £311,000 of Gerrard’s legal costs were repaid under rules allowing people who pay for their own lawyers and are acquitted to have their costs reimbursed, according to a report yesterday. Re: Gerrard is innocent
It's the CPS who decide on wether to prosecute but there's nothing they can do about Liverpool juries, look at the Ken Dodd fiasco
|
Re: Gerrard is innocent
In both cases the Prosecution (or Defence) could have asked for the case to be heard elsewhere on the basis of getting an impartial jury. It would then have been a matter for the trial judge whether he granted the application.
