A Scottish friend , Celtic supporter , has used that term for Rangers .

I've tried to find it's origin , but no investigation makes sense .

Perhaps it won't make sense in the Scottish context .

She always seemed sheepish when she used the word .

The most plausible explanation I've read is something to do with Hanoverians and protestants. Whatever it's origin it's going back to the old sectarian nonsense.

Possibly a throwback to the world wars, where the "filthy Hun" was seen as the sworn enemy, or there's the historic version relating to the "Huns" as a race that swept over Western Europe under Atilla, don't really know just supposition.

Dictionary - Hun - A barbarous or destructive person.

I'm looking forward to the day a Scottish referee is appointed an International Match involving Israel, Malta or Luxembourg :)
