Just had a look on the Web it seems Borstal was for youths between 16 and 21 Cashy, were abolished, in 1982 and replaced with youth detention centres

Thats inaccurate there were detention centres in the 60s, I know loads that went to Buckley Hall near Rochdale, n also detention was a much shorter term 3 months, Borstal was 6 month to 2 Years. So they never replaced em, they were all that were left when they scrapped Borstals.;)

Lads who went to Borstal back in the day used to have a blue dot tattoo on one cheek,(face)

Think it's known as the' Borstal Spot'.
