Re: For the older guys on here look whats back!!!
Would be nice to see another name back as long as there is investment in UK Manufacturing industry. IMHO you can't make use of teh 'Englishness' that comes with a Triumph name without it being 'English'.

And as one comes back one falls. Marcos is bankrupt again after just 5 years back.

Re: For the older guys on here look whats back!!!
There is a lovely Marcos at work, I've always loved the shape, pure muscle car. You'd love our works car park mate.....
Ferrari's, Porsches, a few nice real exotica (old lancias including one bloke brings his Stratos in from time to time), marcos, numerous Lotus including some highly played with Elise.... |

Where you work?

Re: For the older guys on here look whats back!!!
I work in Knutsford, the high disposable income combined with rampant mid life crisis's = lots of flashy motors! :D

Re: For the older guys on here look whats back!!!
Always liked the TR6's myself, then they fetched out that horrible thing the TR7 or the Bullet as they called it

Re: For the older guys on here look whats back!!!
wasn't it the wedge?
Dolly sprint engine if I remember correctly OK it wasn't anything like the previous TR range but this was teh 1970's :D If it had been more reliable then it may have helped them keep teh brand alive |

Re: For the older guys on here look whats back!!!
Heh, your not seriously claiming that the same car.........if you've reshelled etc it then fair dos, a very nice job but it reminds me of that old joke, "I've had this spade for 100 years, its only had 3 new handles and 2 heads in that time :D " or did I get teh before and after the wrong way round :D !!!!
I'm a BIG fan of 911's and would love one as an everyday car. I probably do too many miles for it to be sensible though (30Kpa) |

It's been crushed lol, that car died. Only as a testament to it's sound build quality am I here. I used to use it every day for work, 911's are about the only "supercar" you can do that with. She was an old lady tho '83 could get 36/38 mile to gallon on motorway doing 90mph or so, downside was winter, short trip to work gave me 14 to the gallon. Classic Car Workshop in Chorley serviced it, a lass it was too. Bloke called Kevin owns the place, he has lot's of 911's there, lives up top of Sandy lane just off the motorway, was his field I crashed thru lol. If you fancy a 911 have a word with him, I wouldnt trust anyone else, he's a good man. |
Re: For the older guys on here look whats back!!!
Nowt wrong with old 'good' cars. I had the misfortune to have to drive a brand new 407 diesel auto the other day. It was terrible, handling was wooden with no feedback, the box hunted left right and centre, the radio wouldn't hold a station for more than 30 seconds in the centre of birmingham and kept 'retuning itself and teh trip coputer/control panel was about as unintuitive as it gets. The seats were uncomfortable with sod all lumbar support. I even only managed 37 mpg out of the sodding thing.
Whereas my nearly 200K miles Volvo has superbly comfortable seats (heated), an excellent auto box that does just what you want when you want, gives me equiviliant of 50mpg (LPG 22mpg@40p/litre) and goes like the proverbial scalded cat when asked. Give me an older but 'better' car any day. (I've sort of been tempted by a 300ZX twin tubo nissan or 3000GT but really need/want to get another 100K miles out the volvo first) If I could pick up a tidyish 911 for ~7K I'd be interested next time. |
