Good idea?

Awesome GTI Store UK - Oettinger

Basically a tuning device that has a "Junior" mode that restricts power and/or top speed so you can let little johnny out in your car knowing he can't go too mad.

Who would be stupid enough to let little Johnny out in your tweaked car anyway? You usually have to spend a fair wedge to tweak them and the insurance would be crazy for little Johnny.

I am sure the insurance would not believe that little Johnny would only drive it switched to granny mode.

Re: Good idea?

its not necessarily for tweaked cars, even a 'family' 2.0 litre TDCi mundano can do ~120 nowadays. It smore about you knowing he can't go trying to max it out over hassy old road

Maybe an engine monitoring and recording device would be better. You would know the number of times it over revved and speed the car was doing. You would also know the ave mpg so you would have a good idea on how the car had been driven plus loads of other data.

It just so happens I am involved with such a device for commercial vehicles so the company can see what its drivers have been doing ;)

Well, anything that slows little johnney down is a good idea to me. The number of times I stand at my kitchen window and watch boy racers gunning it own Merlin Dive is unbelievable, its time that regulators like this were fitted to all cars driven by people under 25 by law

Re: Good idea?

I don't believe in preventing people breaking the law as in speeding or whatever really. The need to catch and punish those that do.

A perfect example of why trying to prevent does not work is the stupid hand gun ban a few years ago. It did nothing to prevent the increase of guns on our streets, nor did it reduce gun related crime.

Catch and punish is the correct way to reduce crime. We do of course need sensible sentences given out by Judges and Magistrates.

Its not just for that though for example turn it on when you hand it over for a valet or secure aiport parking.
