Most Boring Car Owned
just noticed this motoring topic today. do not know if this has been done before so here goes. my vote is for a citroen BX diesel manual estate. did what i wanted, never let me down and good on fuel. however after owning previous citroens i found it totally boring and a bland ride. however it was a car that sold in bigger numbers than previous models that the citroen enthusiasts loved.

If we are going to be boring, how about a few boring facts about that car?
https://www.carlogbook.co.uk/citroen/ Click on models to bring up the BX and yes I had one as well. |
Re: Most Boring Car Owned
if a car gets me from A-B, then i dont regard it as boring.simple as.

https://live.staticflickr.com/2862/1...521d9833_b.jpg Imagine a Vauxhall Chevette same colour as above with the extra flecks of rust in the paintwork, rotten sills, dodgy suspension and a passenger seat that wouldn't stay where it should. I don't know why but I spent a fortune 'doing it up' but the more I put into it the more seemed to drop off. until eventually I traded it in for a Citroën, (well, I really did need to get to work). Even after we parted company it still haunted me, I got letters through the post from the DVLA wanting me to pay the road tax and another for tow-in fees from the M6 where it had been abandoned by it's new owner (who hadn't re-registered it). I think it had been abandoned probably due to the faulty fuel gauge, for some reason when you went on long journeys it would stick on 3/4 giving an overoptimistic estimate of how far it would be able to travel. Yet I missed that clapped out old banger, not knowing if you would make it to journeys end added to the excitement of a very mediocre vehicle. |
Re: Most Boring Car Owned
well that chevette looks like a breath of fresh air after looking at the three parked around it. vastly overated motoring crap that will have rusted as quickly as your chevette did and drove more slowly if our works van was anything to go by. however many love em in the same way i suppose john major fancied edwina curry.

In my mind the above photo was how that car looked, in reality it probably wasn't quite as bad as this one, (but it was close). https://goodshoutmedia.files.wordpre...27_56_pro.jpeg |
Re: Most Boring Car Owned
there would be some money going around if someone found a scrap yard like that today. like the ones you see in the old 50,s and 60,s films. there is always a ford V8 pilot in them and late 30,s yanky cars which i,ve wanted but the prices have become too high for me.

Re: Most Boring Car Owned
Health and safety have taken the fun out of scrap yards, no longer can you turn up ask if they have a part for your car and be told to take it from the third car in that middle stack,
it will be balanced precariously on some substance that used to be solid ground but is now oil soaked and more like a swamp. |
Re: Most Boring Car Owned
Modern day cars are to me very boring. Mostly square boxes. You have to look what is written on the boot to see what make and model it is. They do what they are supposed to do and let you down a lot less than earlier cars did. At least the Chevette was a shape you could recognise. The Morris 1000's round it may not have been ultra reliable at the time but you could recognise them from 100 yds away.
If you want a car that gets you from A to B without any fuss, then get a fiesta. If you want something with a bit more character then have a look at Autotrader and spend your £12000 with a bit more imagination. |

if you are just looking at it from a financial point of view then thats good value. you,d pay more for some second hand modern vehicle that looks as if its had too many visits to mcdonalds with the sex appeal of a ginger coronation street actress. in todays world of being enjoyed being seen you,d think the prices for that type of stuff would be higher. |
