Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

was saddened to hear today of syd barrets demise, a founder member of pink floyd who left after about 3 yrs due to a breakdown/drugs became a recluse and just dropped off the planet, no-one had seen syd for many years then one day out of the blue he wandered in the recording studio, the strange thing was floyd were recording Wish you were here, the album that they were making in his memory of which SHINE ON was written with syd in mind, he was only there that day, then vanished again back to being a recluse, he was a MAJOR musician who just couldnt hack the life. havent seen him for nearly 40 years but will miss him, hope you find more where you are now syd than you did here R.I.P.

Sad news. Although he wasn't a big favourite of mine, there was something about his songs that appealed. Everytime I hear "Arnold Layne", it's summer '67 and I'm back on the deck. Very evocative music. As Al says, hopefully he'll find peace now.

Gutted.
I'm not the biggest fan of Floyd but it's always sad when such an influencial and creative character is taken by drugs & the on-going effects. The sheer influence of the man is astounding; not least the vast influence on David Bowie (of which I am a fan).
He was only in Pink Floyd for 3 years, yet new generations continue to discover & be in awe of his talents which is humbling.
RIP.

I loved the early years of Pink Floyd and thought Syd Barrett's music as amazing. I still do love those tracks.

Well put Cashman.
R.I.P. Syd.

Remember seeing them play during wakes weeks at a dance hall in Douglas on the Isle of Man , must have been the summer of 67, was the first time I or any other of the kids had seen a "psychedelic" back projection screen . Piper at the Gates of Dawn had just come out.
