Vinyl Will Outlast CD's

WITHIN TWO YEARS ALBUM CD'S WILL BE A THING OF THE PAST AS DOWNLOAD CULTURE EATS UP THE MAJORS CHOSEN POISION OF MASS DESTRUCTION THE CD.
VINYL RECORD SHOPS AND VINYL COLLECTORS ARE NEVER GOING TO GO AWAY BUT THE CD IS SO UNLOVABLE AND THE WHOLE IPOD CULTURE WE ARE ALL EMBRACING IS (A) PERSONAL AND LOVEABLE TO THE INDIVIDUAL (B)ABOUT THE MUSIC AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE SONG NOT THE COLD OVERPRICED DIGITAL SONIC BULLS* THE FANS HAVE BEEN SOLD BY THE MAJORS FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS, CD'S DON'T EVEN SOUND AS GOOD AS VINYL NEVER HAS DONE.THE MAJORS FORCED THIS ON THE FANS TO MAKE THEM BUY EVERYTHING AGAIN I.E CHANGING THE FORMAT..BUY THE BEATLES WHOLE BACK CATALOGUE AGAIN.THE NEW MEANS OF DISTRIBUTION IS APPLE/ITUNES AND IPOD CULTURE IS A LOVABLE FORMAT IT SOUNDS GREAT AND WARM NO MATTER WHAT BULL IS TALKED AT YOU BY THE CORPERATIONS ANALYISTS. I LOVE MY IPODS.MY CD COLLECTION IN THE HOUSE IS JUST UGLY 2000 CD'S ON A WALL BUT I LOVE MUSIC SO HAVE BEEN FORCE FED THIS FORMAT SINCE DAY ONE. THE MAJORS ARE LOSING THE MEANS OF DISTRIBUTION DAILY THERE POWER AND IT'S CHUFFING FUNNY TO WATCH THEM SCRAMBLE, ALL THEY HAVE IS THERE CHEQUE BOOKS TO ATTRACT NEW TALENT AND APPLE'S CHEQUE BOOK IS BIGGER ANYWAY! EXCEPT THEY DON'T NEED TO USE IT THEY DO FAIR DEALS WITH BIG ACTS PROFIT SHARE DEALS WILL EMERGE 50/50 JUST LIKE THE INDIES HAVE ALWAYS DONE STABLISHED BANDS THAT ARE OUT OF CONTRACT SO HAVE THE FOOTBALL RIGHT AT THIS POINT AND THE TOTAL UPPER HAND THE MAJORS I KNOW ARE CACCING IT IN CASE ONE OF THEM BREAKS OUT DIRECT TO APPLE. WHAT IF RADIOHEAD SIGN TO APPLE. THEY ARE INTELIGENT ENOUGH TO DO THAT. WHY OTHER THAN A PROFIT SHARE DEAL WOULD THEY RESIGN TO A MAJOR OLD SKOOL RECORD COMPANY. FOR AN UPLIFT OF ROYALTIES ON PAST ALBUMS????? MAYBE BUT THESE BANDS ARE CLEVER AND KNOW THE MAJORS ARE NOW NOT THE FUTURE OF MUSIC THEY ARE HISTORY AS MUSIC ADVANCES FORWARDS AND THE FUNNY THING IS THE MAJORS ARE IN UTTER DENIAL.FOR NEW BANDS FINE GET THE CHEQUE BOOKS OUT MAJORS CAN HELP YOU GET KNOWN BUT IF YOU ARE AN ESTABLISHED BAND IN 2006 WHY WOULD YOU SIGN TO A BUNCH OF BEAN COUNTERS. THE ALBUM CD - THE MAJORS LAST CARD WILL BE OVER IN 2 YEARS AND THE WORLD WILL MAKE A LOT OF SENSE BY DOWNLOADING THE MUSIC TO YOUR IPOD FROM ITUNES AT NON INFLATED PRICES AT A COMPUTER AT THE END OF YOUR BED. RECORD SHOPS ARE THE NEW MOBILE PHONE SHOPS MAYBE NOT EVEN THAT.OH AND WE THE VINYL COLLECTORS WILL BE FINE PEOPLE STILL LOVE THAT AND ALWAYS WILL DO :D

Aye i miss my vinyl - i had some quality collections too & a lot curtesy of me mum but my X took them all when we split & wont ever see them again as my excellent phillips record player that the needle lasted for ages & played better than CD players do - im sooo gutted got me where it hurt lol:(:(

Miss the sounds of crackle that made the music sound original & authentic not that you get that on cds. Vinyl made good frisbees too & still played pmsl!! After losing a valuable record collection over the years painstakingly trying to regain the collection i once had tho not the same but better than nowt. Although i did find one or 2 songs actually on mp3 that sounded that it was recorded from vinyl which was nice & freaky lol.

Hmmmmm those was the days:rolleyes:

love my vynal have thousands, also many cds which i dont love but they are the lazy gits way i suppose, agree with accymel about the crackle on some vynal, more with the 70s onwards records i believe they changed the consistency of it in that period,i have a 1958 single (played 1000s) that plays perfectly yet many of my 70s (not played much) crackle like a chip pan, even so the crackles,to me give atmosphere of times.places, plus you can always reduce them if you wish by increasing the base. vynal = i love it.;)

CDs are great for convenience and price, but they'll never replace vinyl. I love my 45s and LPs...there's a special magic about them that modern technology just can't match. I know I'm sad but I still buy tracks on 45s that I already have on CDs because it's just not the same.

And not only vinyl, but shellac too! There's nowt like plonking a nice, shiny Wynonie Harris 78 on the record player! A CD could never replace that!

Re: Vinyl Will Outlast CD's

Sorry, not for me it doesn't. Being a bit of an audiophile I want to listen to music that sounds like the artist is in my room singing just for me. I don't want crackles, pops or any extraneous noise thanks. Also the inconvienience of vinyl just doesn't do anything for me. You have to handle it so carefully, it is effectively being destroyed every time you play it (the detail is in the cut of the groove and you are dragging a diamond through soft plastic everytime). Its a pain to skip tracks, random play-yeh right :D

It is technically possible to get close to 'CD quality'(And I use that term loosely) with vinyl but you need to spend a fortune on a turntable, arm and cartridge and buy master pressed disks at serious wonga each.

The other point that I do want to raise is that the term CD quality is rubbish. A CD in a cheap midi system sounds Ok at best. put the same disk in a quality 2 box CD player through a decent(£1K+) amp and speakers (again at least £1K+) and the difference is unbelieveable. now which is 'CD Quality'?

HiFi is and has always been a very subjective experience. What suits one will not suit another.

As it stands, I own 2 vinyl records (Stan Ridgeway camoflage and The Dammed Eloise) I have loads of CDs and a scary amount of digital music. MP3s are another source of misconception. to give decent quality you need to be encoding at either VBR or 256K. even then a good system will show up the lack of depth of teh whole thing. probably the way to go for digital media is lossless ystems like FLAC
