Re: The who and a few more...

With regards to The Who forget any compilations and just buy Who's Next. One of the best albums of all time with Won't Get Fooled Again, Baba O'Riley and Behind Blue Eyes on it.
Pink Floyd basically anything from Dark Side Of The Moon through to the Wall.
Bowie - Aladin Sane should get you there.
The The - Soul Mining.

Personally I try not to do compilations as the best stuff tends not to be released as singles.

Other bands to try would be The Doors, Velvet Underground, Joy Division, Hawkwind, The Jam, there are just too many good bands of the late 60s throught to mid eighties to mention here (mind you there was an awful lot of dross around at that time as well.).

I think Joy Division were fantastic, a bit to morbid for most people though. I'm also a huge fan of New Order (not Blue Monday).

:)

If you want Joy Division, try "Substance". It's the most mainstream compilation album. Unfortunately, it was compiled after the group had split due to the lead singers (Ian Curtis) suicide.

You need to omit the asterisks.

Try...

Smiths - Hand In Glove
Smiths - Rusholme Ruffians
Echo & The Bunnymen - Nothing Lasts Forever
The Jam - Carnation
Inspiral Carpets - This Is How It Feels
you know it's coming...
Oasis - Part Of The Queue ...It's got bits nicked from lou reed, stranglers and the smiths, nothing like any other oasis track. It's one of the new ones & for me, one of their best.

Velvets were ok, but love everything Nico ever did.
