mika
i'm loving this man at the moment, was watching a concert he filmed for radio 2 last night and it was excellent, the vocal range on this guy is magnificent, he was born in lebanon but brought up in the uk from the age of 9
his songs such as...billy brown, lollipop(my favourite),relax(take it easy) and of course grace kelly fill me with excitement :D he's wonderful :D:D:D:D:D:D:D |
Re: mika
is it only me that when I hear "grace kelly" I think of our very own Rindy?
|
Re: mika
now now entwisi stop being a bitch
|
Re: mika
Music in this country is so strange. It's all either ultra camp pop nonsense like Mika or indie dance nonsense like Klaxons.
It's a poor state when there's only one or two decent chart songs every five years or so. |
Re: mika
yeah but thats in your opinion, everyone has there own opinion on music and it just so happens that i like him and his music, so what if he is camp??? aren't camp people allowed to make music?
|
Re: mika
flashy I meant it as a compliment. That Rindys character is so confident etc that it actually makes a connection with a song like this in my head.

& I did not say that camp people cannot make music, nor did I insinuate it. Don't put words in my mouth. |
Re: mika
I like Mika too. The first time I heard Grace Kelly it reminded me of "Blockbuster" by Sweet, with overtones of Queen.
It would be a boring world if everyone's musical taste was the same. I can't stand rap but understand that many people love it so for me to call it rubbish would be extremely foolish. |

Is it only me, that when I read this thread, it makes me want to slap someone's legs the next time I see him?:D Agreed, Mika is great. I only really heard his music this weekend, and I also saw the fab Radio 2 concert on television. Is he Lebanese? He sounds like a cross between Scissor Sisters and Freddie Mercury...only not quite as butch!:D |
Re: mika
well if he was born in lebanon uncle rindy that would make him lebanese :) are you tired love??

No, it was great. My friends were playing his cd all weekend in the car, and it was a real treat to get to watch the concert, so I could see who he was. That's his sister who plays the drums, isn't it? |

|
Re: mika
this is all i could really find on him uncle rindy :(
I was born in lebanon and rasied in Paris and London, hopping from country to country like a footloose hippy with my four brothers and sisters. Coming from different background to most I found no place at school and delved into music from an early age. I started writing songs as a kid, not because of grand ambitions but because it was an easy way to tell a story, a joke and often the truth. Tell the truth in a song and people are less ****ed off than if you were to say it to their face. I sent out my stories to anyone and everyone, not surprisingly I often got no reply. The further I got into music the more attention I was getting for my own song writing, I made a choice last year and decided to go for it. 'Life In Cartoon Motion' is my first record. It has a coming of age theme, and deals with my transition from childhood to now. What's my sound? I guess it's in the writing. I apologise in advance to the people whos stories and characters I have borrowed from. Remember, It's only a caricature. |
Re: mika
just heard mika for the 1st time today, i aint one to praise modern crap but i actually liked the CD. Grace Kelly track had a sound of Freddie Mercury to me,and that cant be bad. AGREE with Flashy.
|
Re: mika
Ithought 'Grace Kelly' sounded like that bag of bones out of The Darkness, and i hated them as well:eek:

For those who are again being personal, I have again deleted threads.
If another person starts targetting another, the next course of action will be a ban. Keep threads on topic. Debates are welcome, personal attacks are not. It's a bigger thing to just ignore others who become personal and just report them. That's more grown up. |

Re: mika
I thought the lollypop one was a bit weird too when I first heard it but it really grows on you.
I love the way he pronounces some words. |
Re: mika
its called being a foreigner
|
Re: mika
It's a lovely accent on some of the words, like loiydeee
|
Re: mika
he was born in lebanon moved from there when he was 9, lived in paris and london since
|
Re: mika
Yes, I know. He said all that on the telly when he was interviewed a few months ago. Hence why he has a mixture sort of an accent that sounds really cute. Some accents I really like, some have more appeal than others.
|
Re: mika
have now played the full C.D. an the guy will do for me.

|
Re: mika
Agh! Not Mika. My sister and mother both love Mika, I can't escape from his high pitch warblings (puts fingers in ears :D).

Re: mika
IT sounds like MIKA’s mum and dad had a right laugh when thinking up a name for him.
The flamboyant singer says his parents always picked names with special meanings for him and siblings. He explained: “I was born in 1983 in Beirut. My mum’s Lebanese and my dad is American. “My parents have given all of their children exotic names with special meanings. “My brother is called Fortuné, meaning ‘luck’ in French. My sisters are called Paloma, meaning ‘dove’; Allegra, ‘happiness’; and Yasmine, which is ‘flower’. “All lovely, but I don’t know what they thought about with me. They called me Mika, which actually means ‘plastic bag’ in Moroccan. “Still, I love my name and I will never change it.” I think Mika would look great carrying my shopping. It must only be a matter of time before Tesco come knocking on his door to offer him a deal . . . |
