Joy Division/new Order
One for the lads.Which one did you prefer? The manc miserablists and their songs of despair or their reincarnation as electro-dance happy chart toppers.Did you think 'blue monday' was a better song than 'love will tear us apart'.Was Curtis' suicide a blessing in disguise for the rest of the band.To be honest i think New Order just edge it for me as nowadays i find some of JD's stuff difficult to listen to(a couple of songs off 'Closer' anyhow).Or maybe i'm showing my age.From:(to:).

Utter and complete garbage, both of 'em. Listen to a different song called Blue Monday by the mighty Fats Domino and hear what REAL music is like!

Re: Joy Division/new Order
I'd have to go for Joy Division.
Not one of my favourite bands at all but Transmission, Ceremony & Love Will Tear Us Apart are great songs. I despise Blue Monday & in turn can't stand any New Order songs. |

Re: Joy Division/new Order
I prefer Joy Division as the music was still pretty raw .... New Order's 1st album after Ian Curtis (Movement) was very good ...they still sounded like JD but a little smoother round the edges... never really got into the dance techno stuff from them after that.
Wynonie seems to only like the kind of stuff were bods jump on top of pianos screaming stuff like " wap bobolopop a wam bambo" !:D |
Re: Joy Division/new Order
Kraftwerk meets rainy Manchester.
It was always going to end in tears. |

Incidentally, you Manc music types might care to investigate Vinyl Revival at 5 Hilton Street (just off Oldham Street) next time you're in the metropolis. He seems to have plenty of Smiths/New Order and all that sort of malarky in stock, including posters and t-shirts. |
Re: Joy Division/new Order
What's with the 'here's one for the lads' idea? Aren't us women allowed to choose which music we like too?
|
Re: Joy Division/new Order
new order.......no contest apart from the odd genius joy division track.
|
Re: Joy Division/new Order
thought about this choice long n hard since yesterday morning, and come to the conclusion- there aint a choice- both are crap.:p

I love joy divisions 'love will tear us apart' better than new orders 'blue monday' altho i do like a few of New orders stuff & only like that one of Joy Divisions:D

Re: Joy Division/new Order
Joy Division full stop no contest.
New Order have tried but apart from Thieves like Us, True Faith, Temptation and Everythings Gone Green have failed. 24 Hours, New Dawn Fades, Dead Souls, Atmosphere and Sound of Music will never be equalled. I agree Gayle not "one for the boys" just one for folks of a certain age :-) |
Re: Joy Division/new Order
i am a big new order fan and a post regular on neworderonline.com
we had meet ups in selected pubs before gigs and around 70-80 off the new order website forums would be there.made some great friends from around the country and even people from as far away as brazil, norway would meet for the pre gig and post gig **** ups.i have met the band and again hooky more recently.anyway the latest news is that new order are offically spliting up !!!. some people might think they ended ages ago but they even toured last year,at which i wore a bin laden mask at the blackpool gig and the 4,000 crowd held me on their shoulders:D a film as been made about ian curtis and his wife and it went down a storm at cannes film festival last month.the film is called 'control'. joy divison/new order r.i.p |

Re: Joy Division/new Order
new order singer bernard sumner has just got married.remember to look for the release of the film 'control' about the LATE ian curtis, yea i am certain this singer is dead !!! :D
|
Re: Joy Division/new Order
WHAT! Ian Curtis is dead?....hope you've got it right this time Spig.. Davy Jones and all that
|
Re: Joy Division/new Order
I'd have to say Joy Division, cos there would be no New Order if it wasn't for JD,plus, I was a miserable teenaged buggar back then,so yeah JD for me,oh,and 'Something must break' is in my all time top ten favourite songs,I'm still listening to them today, one band I have never grown tired of,I love New order but as someone said earlier they sort of went off the boil during their Ibiza techno phase, still better than most of the inane pap you get in the top 40 nowadays
