Amy Winehouse

Just watching her performance at Glasto on t'red button.
Gotta admit I've done a complete u-turn on what I think about this lass.
She seems relatively sober, looks healthy & is giving an all round performance that is nothing short of fantastic.
Her band is brilliant aswell.

Re: Amy Winehouse

I thought she was alright at the start now her songs are anoying so when friends ask me if i would like her album i say NO NO NO ;) Hehe i jsut dont like her that much!

Re: Amy Winehouse

I think she's completely fake.

Just moulded by the industry to be the female Pete Doherty.

It was embarassing when she was attempting to perform with Paul Weller.[Quote shakermaker]

Glad you've changed your tune.:)

I knew you'd bring that up, you power crazy sod :D

Nah, she looked great today & the performance was brilliant - probably due to not being completely off her tattoo covered tits!

Definitely catch the performance if you can.

Sorry, I had a go at this girl in the previous “Aunty Mandy beats up an artist thread” and I have to say that over the last few months I have grown to like her a lot, to the point of having taken the time and expense to downloading a couple of her videos and tracks from itunes.

At the end of the day she is a performing artist, just like you rindy, why shouldn’t she have her time, she’s got off her arse and done something, life is to bloody cruel and short to do now’t with it. Mr Shaker, you’ve got balls and taste. Good for you cock.

Bought the album because it was supposed to be amazing - turns out it was rubbish. It's now on semi-permanent loan at a friends house.

Oi, Fluff Dougie Freeman, if you check the date of the post of the thread I started last November, which I linked in post 3 of this thread, you'll see that I adore her. She has the bluesiest voice on a white girl since the late, great Dusty Springfield.

So far from rubbishing her, or 'beating up an artist', I think she is quite unique, and a style icon to boot.

From the thread I started last year about Ms. Winehouse, you actually posted a comment in it. Which if I may I'd like to quote...

'A bit of tat trading on a bag girl image. you know yourself what people will do to stay in the lime light'[Quote Doug.]

Fluff, I don't know if she was inspired by me on that one, as I don't know if my t*ts are tattooed.

Well are you?:D

That's a bit rich. She's a married woman, with no known history of promiscuity.

People were probably as rude and dismissive forty years ago of that big haired, cross eyed, big nosed, ingenue, that you love so much.:D

I don't know why I dislike her, but I do. I'm not that keen on her singles but I've heard worse. Perhaps I've just been subconsciously hijacked by the media into feeling antagonistic towards her. Dislike is not reasonable, like the guy who gets on you nerves in the chippy queue just by being there. Or is that just me being paranoid??

Thanks matey.:)

I think she is sooo good. Her voice just connects with something deep in my soul, the way Billie Holiday does.

See! Me and you have had differences of opinion in the past, and now we've found this shared love for Lady Day.:D

Did you ever see Diana Ross in the film-bio of Billie Holiday?

No I've never seen that film.I've got several cds and I read the book about her life. There was a play about her recently at the Bolton Octagon,I would have loved to go to that but couldn't make it,I bet it was very good.:)

It isn't a great film, though Miss Ross did receive an Oscar nomination for it, but the performances are good. Worth a look if you ever see it, and it's occasionally been on TV.

I think Amy Winehouse is one of those artists that always gives something extra when playing live, which is why I've never quite cought on to her music before.

Maybe it's just me, but her recordings and videos seem over-produced and plastic packaged for the mainstream, whereas her live set sounds more like a late sixties soul act [when she's almost sober!] which is why I love it.

I'll admit that although I liked her recordings, it was only when I saw her sing live, on that rubbishy Russell Brand chat show, that I became hooked.

Re: Amy Winehouse

Don't see what the attraction is with this woman. The fact that she looks a right state is irrelevant. Janis Joplin and Maggie Bell were both not what you might call "lookers"; however they had voices to die for. Amy Winehouse is a phoney.

And, Shakey, it's not "the Specials' 'Monkey Man'" - it's Toots & the Maytals 'Monkey Man'. The original is still the greatest!

It wasn't a direct comparison. I said her voice connected with me, like Lady Day's does.

Ms. Winehouse could more favourably compared to Billy Bremner.:D

Why  Because I posted a Taggart link? I always thought that was a great bit of vocals by Maggie Bell - noticed they don't have the vocals on the UK Taggart anymore but have the backing track, dont' know why that is?

Amy Winehouse was supposed to do the vocals for the last James Bond film but couldn 't get it together, so I believe...
