A-Z of Rock Legends

Just thought it would be a great idea to list a profile of post 60's Rock groups that have shaped the music of today.. these pioneers of Rock deserve regcognition....feel free to add your own Legends Of Rock..

I have not yet compiled the whole list but will be adding as I go on.
A:
ASWAD

first came on the scene with the hard hitting single "don't turn around".. one particular line within the lyrics - "don't turn around,if you wanna see my heart breaking..just walk away, if you wanna see me crying" was seen as a new era of writing.

B
B*withched
They released their debut single "cest la vie" and hit No1 within 2 weeks, this all girl irish band paved the way for later bands such as The Cranberry's

C

Cassidy David
Solo artist whose hard hitting rock classics still influence bands like the Artic Monkeys..songs "walkin in the rain" and "could it be forever" are installed as classics.

D
Dollar
One needs to look no further than this new wave rock duo for "in yer face" hard hitting lyrics "who where you with in the moonlight" sums up the influence Thereza Bazar and the great lyricist David Van Day had on Rock as we now know it.

(next list soon)

Must admit.. Dana did create a sideline in the hard rock underground with her lyrics

Snowdrops and daffodils
butterflies and bees
sailboats and fishermen
things of the sea
wishing-wells
wedding bells
early morning dew
all kinds of everything remind me of you

"kicksass" but as said not all new wave rock artists can be included in this list

I think that fills the E position in Rock Legends.. nice one Shaker..the "puff" in yer face hard core hell raising antics of the lead singer along with the ice cold stare of well known hard man of Rock Vince Clarke is worthy of the list.

When we get round to M it has to be Marc Bolan and T Rex, Well before their time OMHO. "You're built like a car, you got a hub cap diamond star halo, you're built like a car oh yeah", what a great chat up line from Get It On.

Lieutenant Pigeon - keyboard driven, instrumental mayhem with surrealist overtones...a huge, yet rarely acknowledged, influence on the Madchester bands.

Just hearing the name conjures up visions of Mrs Robert Powell, or big, busty, blond Babs as she was more commonly known, stomping around in platform boots on TOTP to Mouldy Old Dough.

Happy days.:D

Re: A-Z of Rock Legends

Middle Of The Road - who can forget those early 70's musical revolutionaries with their breathtaking new concepts in harmony and melody, allied to darkly perceptive lyrics dealing with the angst of parental loss.

"Last night I heard my mama singing this song,
oh-we, chirpy chirpy cheep cheep,
woke up this morning and my mama was gone,
oh-we chirpy chirpy cheep cheep,
chirpy chirpy cheep cheep chirp."

Almost Byronesque in its understated, yet chillingly vivid poetic elegance.

It goes without saying that it was a significant influence on the young Morrissey.

Re: A-Z of Rock Legends

OK M.... Martine McCutcheon
Martine's own brand of hard hitting rock burst on the scene with "This Is My Moment".. a world wide acclaimed song with up your's lyrics such as

Tell me you love me the moment you leave
You're more than a shadow, I've got to believe
I wish I could keep you all of my life
The way that I feel for you inside

Hard Rock had changed forever.

Re: A-Z of Rock Legends

I though Martine was going to be the new Clodagh Rogers.

She sadly didn't fulfill her earlier potential.

Melanie Safka, nice one cashman. I was only listening to 'The Very Best of Melanie' the other day. She does the best ever cover version of 'Ruby Tuesday'.
As for Y, that has to to be Shakermaker's favourite, the one and only Neil Young.

Brand New Key was taken from a "cajun" ditty, unfortunately was a big chart hit and categorised her very wrongly to the numpties.:D

Didn't the original post say influential 60s rock groups? B*witched, 60s, rock group? What the hell? That doesn't add up to me. I agree with Cashman; Bowie is an influence that can't be ignored, beats B*witched, who aren't from the 60s, are not a rock group and have no influence over todays music whatsoever.

think original post said "Post 60s" john, though Bowie did some great work late 60s,his major impact i think began early 70s with the Spiders, Aladdin sane, etc etc.:)

The thread was originally posted as a spoof..I mean come on Dollar as rock legends :D
Anyway I would go along with Bowie..his first five albums were brilliant (Man who Sold The World,Hunky Dory,Space Oddity,Ziggy Stardust and Aladin Sane.
I recall all five being in the top 15 of the album charts at the same time!
