Re: Accy Web video jukebox.
Aussie rocker Johnny O'Keefe wrote the song along with Jonney greenan and Dave Owens. Lulu, Jerry Lee and Iggy Pop covered it along with many others. Never liked O'Keefe as a performer, met him a couple of times when working the clubs in Sydney, nice enough bloke but did'nt like his style.

Re: Accy Web video jukebox.
From about the same era as Johnny.
I loved this bloke - still do. He had a hit with this in about 1956 but he's singing it here many years later. (Check out the guy on the Hawaiian guitar. :D) YouTube - Slim Whitman indian love call |

Re: Accy Web video jukebox.
Following my last one, back to good ole Slim (Otis Dewey Whitman Jr. to give him his full name).
This song was no. 1 in the UK charts for 11 weeks in 1955 and that record wasn't beaten until 1991 when Bryan Adams had 16 weeks at the top with "Everything I Do". Slim was more popular over here than in the USA and he topped the Royal Variety Performance several times (Princess Margaret, apparently, was a big fan). A good looking bloke when he was young, I certainly thought so, and I think his voice was unique. He's 84 now but I think he's still singing. :) Incidentally he opened Dawson's, a music shop that sells everything from pianos to sheet music, in Warrington, in 1957 and the streets were jam-packed with fans. They had to close the town centre. :D YouTube - Slim Whitman - Rose Marie |
Re: Accy Web video jukebox.
And finally - the definitive performance of where my last 2 posts originated.
I think this pair were absolutely perfect - and isn't she pretty? It was rumoured that they had a long-standing affair and, to this day, nobody knows for sure. There's a bit of dialogue before you get to the singing but it's worth the wait, in my opinion. Lets hear it for - Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. :) YouTube - Rose-Marie - Indian Love Call II |
