favourite musical.
Just out of curiosity, what are Accy Webbers favourite musicals? Stage or screen or both.
One of my favourite screen musicals is Oliver, I must have seen it dozens of times. I can't choose the stage ones, as I am torn between Blood Brothers (hilariously funny, but also very sad) and Miss Saigon (wonderful special effects for stage) Les Miserables had me laughing and crying at the same time. Are there any stage shows that you have seen that you would highly recommend?:music8: |

Re: favourite musical.
Phantom of the Opera is cool though.

Re: favourite musical.
I so Evita,in London 1979 i think it was, did'nt think much of it. On film it has to be Moulin Rouge staring Ewan McGregor and Nichol Kidman.

Re: favourite musical.
What about Chicago?
|
Re: favourite musical.
I fell asleep in that one...

Re: favourite musical.
My all time fave is Oliver.
Read the book loads, seen the film loads. I have seen the musical version on screen but never seen a stage version. |
Re: favourite musical.
Still...I'm not really a great fan of musicals

Re: favourite musical.
Although not at all religiously minded I do like Jesus Christ Supercar[as my brother used to say]also like Rocky Horror! :)

Re: favourite musical.
I remember seeing Rocky Horror when I was about 7 on New Years Eve one year and me and all my mates were laughing enourmously when they said "transexual" and things. We are all very strange.
|
Re: favourite musical.
And what has changed exactly?? :D :D
|
Re: favourite musical.
Missed my chance to see Rocky Horror on stage a few years ago as I was ill. Had a costume ready, fishnets and all. My mates had a brilliant time at that one. The stage version of the Lion King and Chitty chitty bang bang are supposed to be good. Would love to see those.:music8:

Re: favourite musical.
It wasn't a stage production but I really liked the Bernstein/ Ti Kanawa/ Domingo? CD of West Side Story. A great story with a great score - funky, mixing Bernstein's love of then contemporary Jazz with more established operatic devices. The video of "the making of West Side Story" (the version I mentioned) is very interesting - a scene showing Bernstein losing his rag with Domingo because of some musical issue is compelling viewing. Seeing these masters of their art working together with such professional comaraderie (spelling?) is very inspiring! My grandmother was part of Blackburn Amateur Dramatics society so I was brought up on helping serve tea to the performers during performance of Gilbert & Sullivan Operas - Pirates of Penzance was a favourite at the time.

Re: favourite musical.
Am catching up on things I missed - so just found this one. Loved Return to the Forbidden Planet. saw Rocky Horror in Weybridge of all places, six of us in French maid's outfits with fishnet stockings and stilettos - the sight of Nicholas Parsons in fishnet stockings will stay with me for a long time!

Re: favourite musical.
Ceejache mentions West Side Story. Great film, but the best version of the music that I ever heard was by Oscar Peterson.
|
Re: favourite musical.

West Side Story has to be the best musical ever for both music and dancing
|
Re: favourite musical.
Only ever seen two stage musicals Evita along time ago and Joseph, thought Joseph was superb but ended up with a sore back through having to sit in one seat so long.

Re: favourite musical.
''Phantom of the Opera'' has to be my favourite. All of us were reduced to tears by the time we came out and were trying not to look as if we were having a good old sniffle.
|
Re: favourite musical.
I was reduced to tears at Phantom too. Saw it in 1990 at the Prince of Wales in London. Hope you have a great time at Blood Brothers Rockrabbit, it's hilarious in parts and very sad in other parts.
Anyone seen Starlight Express? It's coming to Manchester for a few weeks starting November and I would like to know if it's worth seeing...:) |

Re: favourite musical.
Don't really like musicals, can't see why every song is sung twice. Love theatre, Blood Brothers & The Woman in White are 2 of my favourites, also saw one done by Moorhead pupils when my son was there called 'Killed', About a young World War 1 soldier shot for 'desertion', it is a true story and was very moving and extremely well acted.
