"tribute" acts/bands
 

bit of a wander from another thread , who came up with the daft idea of calling all these copy cat acts "Tribute bands" they are sodding impersonators with no imagination or talent of their own ,every one reminds me of the cheap ass cover versions Woolworths used to sell

I have only ever seen one Tribute Band in my life Maiden Scotland who are an Iron Maiden Tribute act and can honestly say i loved it!
They were very talented,Maiden aren't the easiest band to cover and they pulled it off perfectly.
Who are you to say they have n talent or imagination?
They may of tried to make it earlier in their careers and like many bands never got a break.
If they enjoy playing music and covering their favourite bands let them get on with it.

disagree john, most of em yeah yer right, but odd ones like Counterfeit Stones, who i saw up ossy town hall (was blackmailed into going) are a top notch band, n i don't say that lightly.;)

I once saw a guy at the Willows Rugby club Salford, who was billed as a tribute to Roy Orbison, I was very sceptical before going, but the minute he walked on stage, even before he started singing, it thought Roy had ome back from the dead. This guy was the nearest i've seen to the real mccoy, he was brill

I once say the Beatles tribute act, can't remember what it was called, in a pub and it was great fun, but I wouldn't pay money to go and see one.

I`d usually agree but a mate of mine took me to see T.Rextasy who were brilliant. I was too young to see Bolan live so this was a very acceptable substitute.:mosher:

there is a tribute band festival every year at a farm in nottinghamshire,called GLASTONBUDGET. its so popular it sells out theses days.its 45 pound including camping and beer is 2 quid !!
this years is on spring band holiday weekend may 25th
many bands including,
bad manner (the real bad manners)

I saw `The Bootleg Beatles` support Oasis at knebworth and i must say they were fantastic although probably the best tribute act in the world today has to be `Guns `n Roses`, they even have the real Axl Rose as their lead singer!

Saw "The Musical Box" in London once. A Genesis tribute who only do the prog-rock early stuff, not the candy-floss pop they came out with when Collins became lead singer. The highlight was hearing the 22 minute "Suppers Ready" played live. In fact the popularity of this band is thought to be one of the reasons for the real Genesis' European tour last year (although Gabriel and Hackett sadly werent present).

Although you are right, a lot of tributes theses days are very shoddy.
