What Are Your Favourite weepies

They don't have to be sad, they are just the songs that bring a lump to the eye and a tear to the throat, they invoke moments sometimes treasured sometimes perhaps lost love, Aaaah!

Here are a couple of mine inspired by listening to The Who and their great Album Tommy.

Christmas (from the above album),

Quote:

Did you ever see the faces
Of the children, they get so excited.
Waking up on Christmas morning
Hours before the winter sun's ignited.
They believe in dreams and all they mean,

'Cos of the memories of krimbo when mine where that sort of age. (Though I must confess the rest of that track is a tear jerker for completley different reasons).

Honey Bobby Goldsboro

Just because.....

By the way if you're wondering, what's this change that's come over Less, I bought 10 hankies for £3.00 today and I'm going to get my monies worth!

So go on, get out that box of tissues and think about your sentimental little weepie.

Don't -Elvis Presley

This does it for me. I'm right back 47 years ago and there's been the chucking of a ring at a young airman, a week of the worst heartache and then the phone rings and when I answer it this is playing on the other end. I still cry when I hear it - I'm sniffling now. :(

P.S. I took the ring back - and I married him. :D

Oh katex, how sad, it either means you've no imagination, (which I don't think is the case 'cos of your connections to the ossy' Thespian type people), or nobody has affected you in a moving, nostalgic way, tears, are part of memories, as well as smiles, you have my sympathy for your lack of memories.

:(

This is another that I love. It reminds me of my dad who used to play it on piano (perhaps not quite as well as Lennie Bernstein), of my childhood and of my husband who bought me the LP of Bernstein's first version for my birthday in 1969. I had the slow movement, with the short violin solo, played at his funeral along with #2, below (we both loved Miller).

Blimey, Less, can I borrow one of those hankies?

Frank Sinatra singing My Way always makes me cry. It was my Grandad's favourite song, he always sung it as his party piece. I have Sinatra's greatest hits in my car and I can't always bear to listen to that song, much as I love it I have to skip over it most times.

Oh I did enjoy that, Steeljack, I will go a long way to see/hear a pipe band. I spent years trying to persuade my grandson that he really wanted to be a drummer in a pipe band (I love the tight snare drums) but to no avail - he plays rock guitar like his uncle Alan.

And finally.....before I weep my way up to bed, that blasted beautiful woman again, singing my party-piece when I was about 10 (Mum on the piano and I sang it in English - "Oh my beloved, father, I love him, yes, I love him. I'll go to Ponta Rosa to buy a wedding ring......etc." - and it was really a bit too high for me). It's a lovely piece though. Good old Puccini.

Just a quick thought, It could be expanded to those moments in a film where the woman watching is about to burst into tears and yet her feller just happens to have a tissue ready for her!

(I'll let you into a secret here girl's, HE was getting himself a tissue, but you assumed he was getting it for you, so what else can he do but put on a brave face, otherwise the moment is lost!).

Bowie's Heroes.

YouTube - David Bowie - heroes - original video 1977

It reminds me of being seventeen, and of breaking up with my twenty year old girlfriend in the Hacienda.

I was wearing a raincoat, covered in photographs of myself, and painted with poetry, and she was wearing a full length fur dress.

God, I could weep, not at the musical memory, but at what we were wearing.:D

Really good thread. Music is amazing at touching our sadnesses, as well as the joy we've lived through.

Have enjoyed listening to other people's choices, and reading the snippets of biography.:)

Isn't it wonderful though that not only can we have the memories but also the ease with which we can share them with others, thank you modern technology, the web, and certainly as seems to have been proved Utube!

Cashy , that has got to remind lots of folks of day trips to Blackpool in the early 50s, with their grandmas and concerts on one of the piers, if a 6 or 7 seven year old can be embarassed by his Grandma it was during this song when all the old ladies took out their lace trimed hankies and waved goodbye to Joseph Locke during this song (I think he must have been the P J Proby for a certain generation),
