If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

If you could bring a dead rock star back to life for one gig, who would it be?

John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Buddy Holly, Freddie Mercury? Or someone else?

This Day in Music are carrying out a world-wide survey to see which dead rock stars people would want to see again - for one night only!

Who would you pick? You can see a full list and vote on
This day in Music

Very suprised at the results so far, to see John Bonham up there with Freddie Mercury(got my vote) is great, makes a change from the usual John Lennon, Kurt Cobain or Elvis.............

Can someone please explain to me what you define as a 'Rock' star, don't understand these different categories. Like Gale has mentioned Dean Martin ... didn't exactly rock to me ?? More crooner/ballad singer.

There can only be one for me, even though I enjoy and admire many others. If it hadn't been for Elvis there would be nothing. Elvis was Rock'n'Roll and was not only a raw, exciting musical talent but also a beautiful, incredibly sexy young man.

moonie did not need to perform to entertain, we were once at a "Crystal Palace Garden Party" huddled under plastic sheets on the sodden grass, when we heard n helicopter:confused: as it drew nearer, we saw KEITH MOON, painted in black letters on the underbelly, it flew over the lake where the stage was, then from about 100 FT high the crazy sod jumped out n made one hell of a splash in the lake, that was Moonie! Daft as a Brush.:rofl38::rofl38::rofl38: never knew why:confused: the WHO were not even performing at the festival.:D

john lennon

i missed his first execution and now with HDTV it coud be appreciated in its full glory if it could happen again , preferably before he got to sing one single note

For me it would be either John Bonham so Led Zepplin would be restored to their former glory or Dusty Springfield one of my favourite artists of all time.

Janis died the same year as Hendrix, and Jim Morrison.

She was Rock and Roll, immortalised in Leonard Cohen's Chelsea Hotel, (or was that Joni Mitchell?) she gave everything, just got my vote.

Summertime is one of my favourite songs as well, sorry you didn't like Janis' version, try Joni's. :)

Sorry, have to disagree with you there...if it hadn't been for Wynonie Harris, Roy Brown, Amos Milburn, Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner and many more who most people have never heard of, there would be nothing, including Elvis. They invented rock 'n' roll, but history was rewritten in order to write them out of the picture. That's the real rock 'n' roll swindle!

agree entirely, in fact in the many more wynonie refers too was what most pundits call the 1st rocknroll record was "Rocket 88 by Jackie Brenston" another who most have never heard of.

No, JavaScript, as he predates his son (surprisingly), also Jack Bruce once said, " JavaScript Bach is the boss of the base line", possibly biased as the second cello in the Scottish Youth Classical Orchestra. ;)

[If Elvis fans would just admit he stood on the shoulders of giants]

What's your favourite version then?

"Summertime" as Gershwin wrote it. I'd certainly bring him back from the dead. ;)
