Last week i downloaded some music for my Aunt, one of the albums she wanted was Dolly Partons Greatest Hits (yes that does say hits)
i have had the album on my pc ever since and cant help listening to one certain song on it...'Islands in the stream' i'm quite embarrased to admit to the fact that i like this song (cringe) are there any songs you like but know you shouldnt? :o :end: |

There have been times when I've almost liked the Birdy Song!
|
Re: Songs you like but really shouldnt
I love Dolly Parton and not ashamed to admit it.
But I'm afraid there is just one singer that I refuse to acknowledge that I really, really like. I'm not going to admit it on here and I'm fairly sure you won't guess. |
Re: Songs you like but really shouldnt
Oh come on Gayle you can't do that to us! :D

Re: Songs you like but really shouldnt
Just gone through a folder on the comp and picked out these tunes that I shouldn't really admit to downloading or liking but I don't give a toss.
1 Bobby Goldsboro (A whole CD) 2 Charlene - I've never been to me. 3 Dean Freedman - Lydia (Love it) 4 Duncan & Keedie - I believe my heart (That did take some admitting to) 5 Lori Morgan - Something in red (Country) 6 Paris Hilton - Nothing In This World (Oh dear) That's it and I feel much better now. |

I still walk around singing Little Arrows (Leapy Lea), I like the "Oh Oh th__e pain" bit. I just dug out my Bobby Goldsboro LP to check if he did "By the time I get to Pheonix"-yes. The album's called Honey and I think that was a hit as well, haven't got a turntable set up to check.

Re: Songs you like but really shouldnt
Shuddup ya face still holds the record "for the most successful song in Australian music history for 28 years straight! Over 50 cover versions with translations into 10 languages. including Papua New Guinea pidgin and the Australian aboriginal Indjibundji dialect." I knew he had some record and the description comes from his website.

What puzzles me is why someone should feel embarrassed because they happen to like a particular song? Personal likes and dislikes are just that – personal and have nothing to do with anyone else. Could it be that people feel embarrassed about their choice because of the fear that their peer group would pour scorn on that choice and ridicule them and they would lose their place in the group pecking order? A bit like daring to have an opinion that does not concur with the herd. |

Re: Songs you like but really shouldnt
I don't really have music on the PC (don't tend to download stuff- I expect people to respect my copyright so I should really respect the copyright of others). I've just done a swift search of the PC and it's come up with a whole bunch of embarrassing stuff, but that's for the music round at the pub quiz tonight.
The only one that springs to mind is "Nellie The Elephant" by Splodgnessabounds. If that's on in the car, I listen to it and sing along. If there's someone else in the car I skip to the next track. |

Anything from the classics like Light Cavalry Overture, to big band, to dance band (30/40’s style), to skiffle, to traditional jazz, to marching and waltzing, to country and western, to pops up to about the eighties. Throw in a few comedy and novelty records and I’m listening. |

Re: Songs you like but really shouldnt
It’s her voice BLACKBURN RAVER and the ease with which she performs. No quick gasping intakes of breath like you get with the modern singers. No need for a sensitive mic close to the mouth. Patsy Cline could project her voice without shouting, as could other singers of her era.
Helen Shapiro is another artist with that quality. Nothing quite like a bit of hoedown to get the feet tapping. Thanks for that BLACKBURN RAVER I enjoyed it immensely. It’s what I call ‘happy’ music. The Minute Waltz by Chopin performed in 30 seconds by Victor Borge Benipete. And “When I’m Cleaning Windows” with the follow-up version. |

If its what you like then no one has the right to castigate you for it. I’ve got all the CD’s too and I think that George Formby is great. |

The chicken song by spitting image. Pure artistic genius

Not sad at all, I've got it too. ;) YouTube - George Formby - Fanlight Fanny One of his best. A nice man in private life, a funny man in films, a damned good musician - George Formby. I don't care who knows, or cares, I'm a Formby fan. |
Re: Songs you like but really shouldnt
Another one I just love. This man died 10 years before I was born, he was only 35 and died from TB in 1933, and he is regarded as the "father of Country music". My musical tastes are very wide but....check this out. I think he was great and even my Rock guitarist son thinks he was quite "cool".

Beryl, born in Accrington, was a bit of a tartar but George wasn't quite as henpecked as he liked to make out. Beryl was happy to be blamed for "stopping" George doing things - that he didn't want to do anyway - so no-one would ever blame George. ;) However, she never managed to stop him buying big cars, fast motorbikes and boats, or doing anything else that he liked doing. :D I don't know if she was on one of his records but she certainly appeared in a couple of films with him. |
