Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
sounds good on the first play...I'm sucker for strings in the middle..and got abit of Smiths in the back...but then I must stop comparing stuff to the Smiths.

Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
Rate this band.'The Last Broadcast' was exellent. The reviews i've read for this album are favourable.Just cant help thinking they may have got left behind in the wake of Elbows 'The Seldom Seen Kid' & all it's critical acclaim.

Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
Think its their best album yet but, in all honesty this band just don't 'get inside me' nor do I ever recognise them immediately on radio play.
Im seeing them Friday n to be quite frank would prefer to stay home n watch crap TV |
Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
I love Doves ever since I first heard 'The Cedar Room' years and years ago. Saw them at Glastonbury when they had released The Last Broadcast - chuffing immense gig - played as the sun was going down and the crowd was rocking.
This new album is never out of my Windows Media Player at the moment :D Just love it - and anyone who is able to go and see them, jammy gits!! One thing I really do miss about living in Cyprus is me live gigs. Really looking forward to Kasabians new album too :) That underdog song on the Kaka Sony Bravia advert sounds top chuffin notch! Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
Saw em last night at the Academy and it was like 'best of' gig
Nope they haven't inspired or captured me. Just a bunch of aging rockers churning out increasingly up tempo stuff. |
Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
and by christ! The lead singer is ugly
|
Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
Though you didn't exactly go and see them without prejudice did you, planetsusie
|
Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
It was without prejudice
I listened to all their albums several times because i am open minded that's music, subjective |
Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
Oh and bought a ticket and went to check that out
|
Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
If you say so. :)

Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
Indeed. I still went and really wanted to like them. That would make for a much better evening.
They are ok. I wouldn't choose to play their stuff and I also wouldn't ask for it to be turned off. Its nowhere for me. The key words being 'for me' Obviously people do like them, that's why other tickets got sold and they were recommended to me. Staying in with the TV would have been better. hahaha! |
Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
You liked them live then shakermaker?
|
Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
They're definitely best seen in a festival environment.
I hope that doesn't seem disrespectful to their own shows or recording (I bought their Some Cities album and still listen to it now and again), but they do their best work during the summer festivals of Oxygen, T, V, etc. I suppose that's actually a great thing to have in their arsenal - entertaining thousands who don't even regularly listen to their music. |
Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
i also went the academy gig and it was good ( but then again i would say that because i am a 'fan' ) but it was not their best.the film show behind them was very cool, certainly the northern soul wigan casino footage played to the song 'here it comes' from the first album..shame about the fight that broke out during the gig though.
ive notice samples of the new album being played on loads of tv drama's/sport programmes etc this week |
Re: doves new album-kingdom of rust
