YouTube copywright

Has anyone noticed that lots of what you would call classic music vids have gone missing on youtube..it's all down to this copywright crap with the big boys like Sony,EMI and such blocking and withdrawing from youtube.. bastards! :(

Oh come on entwisi..I pay a TV licence but I don't have to pay everytime I watch a vid on mtv and such.. I don't have to pay to hear a song on the radio..you are going to far.. what next?.. if I play a song with the window open and somebody walking past hears it I am breaking copywright laws?.. get a grip on the real world.

When MTV play a video they pay royalties to the copyright owner. So does the radio station when they play a song on the radio.

as Neil says, there are payments from the instances you mention. there was a big who hah recently about workplaces having to fork out licenses if their staff wanted to listen to the radio.

youtube is unregulated. if the labels uploaded stuff then fine but its like me telling anyone i know that they can borrow your car as often as they like whenever tey like and they dont need to pay you anything for it. its your property and you have a right to charge if people want to use it

i think my world is quite real, it appears its yours thats dreaming.....

I reckon the record companies could be cutting off their nose to spite their face here. I don't know about anyone else, but I use youtube to have a listen to performers I've not heard before to see if I like 'em. For instance, somebody told me about a little rock 'n' roll band called Ducks DeLuxe who played the London pubs in the 70's. Had a listen on youtube, liked what I heard and ordered their CD. If I couldn't have "previewed" them, I wouldn't have bothered. And not only that, sometimes youtube can remind you of just how good somebody is that you'd forgotten about over the years. Was listening to some Dave Edmunds the other day. Result? Another CD ordered, which might not have been otherwise, thanks to youtube!

Have been known to do that meself Wyn, probably quite a few do, aint rocket science, record companies will probably lose more in this way, but too greedy/stupid to see it.
