Maybe I'm wrong, but I didn't think that this thread was about our attitudes to war. Since Trinity, it's been an even worse idea than it was before ... not a good way of problem solving. And I certainly am not a dulce et decorum est kinds guy. But some of the soundtracks of war movies, I really like ... much more than patriotic stuff like Vera's Hits from the Blitz ... or the marches. I particularly like the soundtrack from "Platoon", especially Barber's "Adagio for Strings":

Kinda ashamed of myself that I haven't come across this.:o I know there's a lot of great music comes out of Down East, particularly Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland ... I do believe I'm going to listen a lot more to music from the Maritimes, eh.:D

I once gave some thought to the question: Why was there so much poetry that came out of WWl, and so little from WWll? The only one that comes to mind is Randall Jarrell's "The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner."

Paul Fussell's "The Great War and Modern Memory" provides some "answers", if answers there are. I found the chapter, "Oh What a Literary War" particularly interesting.

Without clicking the link i guess it is the metallica song based off the 30's novel that consists of footage from the movie adaptation. Shows that there is more depth to some of the metallica songs...is that the longer video edit?

Thanks.....just remember my mum,big sis singing it when I was a toddler.Brought back many happy memories.
