Rory to Morecambe

Must be silly season....according to a colleague of mine in my office at Blackburn, there's a suggestion that RP may be making a move to North Lancashire.

Seriuosly, even I can't believe that....can I?

Congrats on tonights silver ware in the cabinet by the way.

Come on Redskin, why on earth would we want to let the Shrimps have JC or Rory for that matter. Great game tonight, even if it was an anti climax score wise. Nice to see Rory get the ball for once and allow him to run at the defence. As for Johnny Coleman, he's done an excellent job IMHO although sometimes we don't agree with his decisions. Next season will be the true test of his management skills. Isn't this the one Eric said we had to be in the league by? Failure is not a word in Eric's dictionary.

Can confirm that Rory will be at Morecambe next season.
He will be wearing no 11 & stuffing the living daylights out of you shrimps down the wing, as we did this season, when we visit Christie Park for our trip to collect your annual gift of 3 points.

Nowhere for the time being. He is still in contract for another season.I would love to be able to say that he would be staying with the club but I think we all know that it's unlikely.Anyway,he will be at presentation night on Sat and will be raring to go against the Ultras on Sunday! You could always try bringing him down Shurm, and talk some sense into him!;) [having said that you would have to catch him first!]

. . . and is almost certainly a triumph of optimism over reality.

Here are three good reasons why Rory would not be going to Morecambe:-

1) He took some persuading to turn pro and to leave a good job at the Post Office in West Yorkshire , so at this point in his career he will be looking to maximise the opportunities on his next move , therefore . . .

2) . . . he would be ill-advised to move to another Conference club who have carved out a unique niche as Nearly-Men-By-The-Sea , and who are unlikely to further his (understandable) ambitions by one iota.

3) He has often said that his ambition is to play for a famous Yorkshire side . It's very clear when I talk to anyone in Bradford that they still think of him as one of their own , and they see a natural place for him at Valley Parade - well above his present club status.

By all means, let's accept the likelihood of him wanting to depart the current management set up , but I find it difficult to believe that even the combined ghosts of Thora Hird , Ted Lune , Colin Crompton and Eric Bartholomew could lure him to the desolation of Morecambe where - it was famously said - "You could explode a hand-grenade on the prom on Bank Holiday Monday and still not hurt anybody".

Morecambe_Red 28-04-2005 07:38

Re: Rory to Morecambe

I doubt you have ever been on Morecambe prom on a Bank Holiday!!
At this time last year we told the Chester fans Michael Twiss was signing for us. They laughed , one even said he would eat his hat if he signed for us!! The rest is history.
I believe he was only a part-time postman so the sacrifice to full-time football was not too great.
As mentioned watch this space !!

if a conference club comes for him with bags of money.. will he refuse to join them if he has to play against us...

sorry but somehting wrong wiht this picture surely?

Re: Rory to Morecambe

Blimey,I even looked out the window then just to be sure! All that is really needed is some serious bridge building between certain members of the management team and certain players. It's not beyond redemption just yet but I am bloody sure we would all like to see Rory pulling on a Stanley shirt at the start of next season.Tell him what you think on Saturday night, tell Eric that losing him is a massive mistake, tell Coley if you are feeling brave/drunk enough.Either way get down to IES on Sunday and watch one classy winger in action![Sorry Loweiy,I mean Rory!]:engsmil:

Re: Rory to Morecambe

[QUOTE=lindsay ormerod]All that is really needed is some serious bridge building between certain members of the management team and certain players.

I may not be as qualified to comment as some of you guys on here, as, through work commitments, I can only attend half of the season's games....

BUT... I have been a manager, in my chosen field, for most of my working life, & the ONE thing, above all that I have learned, is, YOU DON'T NEED TO LIKE THE PEOPLE THAT WORK FOR YOU!!! I have many colleagues that I RESPECT... that doesn't mean that I would enjoy their company over dinner or a pint... I don't have to socialise with them & their spouses... what I have to do, is get the best out of them whilst they are under my control, for the 40 or so hours that they are employed by me. This, quite simply, means, in my opinion, find out all you can about your employee, decide upon his/her strengths & weaknesses, play on the strengths, downplay the weakness. Somehow, although I have only been 'with' the club as a supporter for half of Coley's reign, their are many instances over the last three seasons where I have had difficulty in understanding some of the decisions made by 'management'.
I do respect what the management team has achieved over the last six seasons, & don't want to particularly 'knock' their decisions... perhaps, if there was a little more 'transparancy', & certain decisions were explained, either on here or the 'fishy', maybe supporters such as myself would have a little more confidence in what goes on, off the pitch.

lindsay ormerod 28-04-2005 20:27

Re: Rory to Morecambe

I posted some similar "managerial" stuff on an earlier thread and got shot down for it!The basics of good management are the same for whatever field you are in and you have them in a nutshell there. You play to your strengths, praise and criticise in equal measure, but always be constructive. Lead by example,if and when you make a mistake, admit it,and above all DON'T HAVE FAVOURITES!

harwood red 28-04-2005 21:54

Re: Rory to Morecambe

well said lindsay/kitchener but I have to say I respect JC as a leader and as we all know he's not afraid to speak his mind even if at times it does seem rather questionable but as I would be as much use as a footy manager as I would a ballerina I will withold my thoughts on his management style.... but after saying all that....................... RORY DON'T GO!!! But if by chance you do I can only wish you all the luck and success in the world

Christies Child 28-04-2005 22:40

Re: Rory to Morecambe

...it REALLY is silly season now!

According to an informed Stanley lad in my office who is normally spot on with his news, the latest to be linked with my lot is a certain player who has had a number of problems with Coley this season. Evidently we made a bid for him before he decided to join a league club.

Don't worry fellas, even I find that too hard to believe.....BUT would be the ideal partner for Mr.T!

Re: Rory to Morecambe

With Brown & Roberts being offered new contracts the incentive will be for Rory to stay. A brill setup to feed him on the wing with Mullers & Evil banging em in all the way to the football league. Rory knows this club is going up this next season so a few months to fulfill his ambition as a league player is on his doorstep. Coley has no favourites as he said at the last forum, but he knows for all his discrepancies with Rory he is the best in the conf. New song for Morecambe when we visit Crusty Park next season: "Rory here, you're havin a laff!"

No disrespect but get real fella - Craneys been attracting interest this season from league clubs - why would he go to Morecambe? Actually - thinking about it, Eric might be more pleased if he went to Morecambe with the sell on clause Alty have on him... less to pay Alty...

After rectifiying my original post I would just like to say Great result today for your lot and well done!

Your manager deserves a big pat on the back for this performance, lost two massive players last season and comes back with this..........Genius!

And for the record Brannan had a decent debut today but truth be known I don't think many were too bothered about the football or the fact we lost as our minds were elsewhere with a more important issue.
