Leighton McGivern
Apparently, Coley is very interested in Leighton McGivern - a 21-year-old striker who has been released by Rochdale. Anybody know owt about him?

Re: Leighton McGivern
He's only ever started two games for Rochdale but has made 28 appearances coming off the bench. He's only scored one goal in that time but is described as a 'promising talent' by many.
His only goal was in Rochdale's 3-0 away win at Wycombe last season - that goal coming just minutes after he came on as a substitute. He was at Vauxhall Motors prior to signing for Rochdale in summer 2004. He played (may have made his debut) for Rochdale in the friendly with Stanley last season. Only played one game for Vauxhall Motors but scored in that game and before that he was at Kidsgrove and was top scorer for a team called Waterloo Dock. That's all I can find about him. |
Re: Leighton McGivern
Thanks for that, Adam. I've been mooching around looking for info, too, and apparently, he's picked up 6 yellow cards. Still, I'm sure he'll be a lot more level-headed under Coley's calming influence!

Re: Leighton McGivern
I heard that he is pacey small forward, who "puts himself" about. He works very hard and is always causing problems for the opposing team. Apparently he has a very sweet left foot according to the Dale fan I work with...He is also from Liverpool.

Re: Leighton McGivern

Re: Leighton McGivern
maybe a replacement for Evil? Do we know anymore news on Evil staying or going?
|
Re: Leighton McGivern
Evil will stay I think, this guy will be a good backup and we will now have 4 strikers competing for a place in the starting XI which can only be a good thing as last year we only had 2 strikers and hardly ever could bring a striker off the bench.......

Re: Leighton McGivern
He never quite showed enough at Rochdale to warrant a new contract. When he was brought in it was with one eye on the future, obviously Parkin feels that he's never going to be good enough. To be fair i don't think he played enough for me to give a good opinion on him, most of his appearances were for less than 10 minutes. His goal was quite nice though!

Re: Leighton McGivern
A few snippets. Born in Bexley. Played for Waterloo Dock in the Liverpool Combination and Kidsgrove Athletic as well as Vauxhall Motors. In Liverpool Combination representative side. Scored the only goal in Rochdale Reserves' win against Burnley at the Interlink in March.

Re: Leighton McGivern
Apparently he scored something like 50 goals in whatever league he was playing in before he came to us.:ohmy8:

Re: Leighton McGivern
This is from Liverpool County Combination website from end of 2003-04 season when McGivern was playing for Waterloo Dock. He signed for Rochdale shortly afterwards. It is a strong amateur league, John Durnin played for same club.
Special mention must also be given to the club's goal scoring sensation, Leighton McGivern, whose arrival in December sparked an impressive unbeaten run of 20 league games, including 19 wins. Allied to this success in the Challenge Cup, McGivern has scored 42 goals for the club in only 25 matches and has terrorised County Combination defences throughout. His performances for the Dock and with Britannia in the Liverpool Sunday League has attracted numerous scouts and it would be surprising if Leighton has not moved into the paid ranks for next season. McGivern treble clinches Challenge Cup A tremendous performance by the County Combinations leading goalscorer, Leighton McGivern, was the highlight of this season's Liverpool County F.A. Challenge Cup Final. Waterloo Dock eased past a youthful Marine Reserves team, from the Lancashire league to take their third trophy in the last five years and their sixth in total. McGivern dominated the game from start to finish. Scoring a hat trick in the 3-1 win, gaining a penalty which Lee Battle missed, creating several chances for his team mates, hitting a superb free kick which was magnificently saved and generally causing mayhem in the Marine ranks every time he touched the ball. |
