Questions for the Club

This thread is started with the consent of Accrington Stanley FC (ie: Rob) for you to post questions directed to the club. Rob will be looking in on a regular basis and answering or passing on questions. This ongoing thread will replace the regular online Q&A sessions I have organised in the past.

Please try to keep your questions relevant to the club and do not use text talk. This is not the place to ask about team tactics or team selections. This is also not the place to air conspiracy theories or ask joke questions.

Ask your Question and receive your answer. If you wish to talk about the answer then start another thread. Only Question and Club answers in here.. Any comments (Including thank you) will be deleted. Please read other peoples questions before asking yours and if you are not happy with the answer you get then tough! Asking multiple times will not get a different answer.

Fire away :)

Re: Questions for the Club

When is the release date for the new kit?
The new home kit will be released this week, keep an eye on the website for further details.

Are we still looking to sign any more player this transfer window?
There will be a number of signings before the start of the season, we still need another goalkeeper for a start.

What happened regarding the end of season DVD/Video with all the clips from the stanley games?
Unfortunately we changed the company that provides the filming on matchdays midway through the season and so it made it difficult to collate all the footage. Normal service will be resumed in 2005/06.

When is the Ultra's Vs First team DVD ready?
I'll have some with me at training on Thursday

Is there any progress on the clayton end roof to report?
We are still waiting for the decision on funding

Could you please make a list of any Ground Improvements that have either been completed or started during the close season.
Most of the time over the close season has been spent tidying up the stadium with new coats of paint and general repairs. We have also removed the two floodlight pylons from the Coppice Terrace.

What has happened about the pre-season ticket for the friendlies?
This will be available later this week, and will offer four games against the Championship and Premiership sides (Burnley, Preston, Cardiff and Wigan) for the price of three.

On our site, and from Eric's quotes in the Observer, Evil went for an undisclosed fee. On Wrexham's site he arrived on a free transfer. What really happened?

rob 14-07-2005 05:26

Re: Questions for the Club

i apologise in advance for being vague. unfortunately sometimes it is not in the interests of either club to disclose details of transfers, however lee mcevilly would not have left accrington stanley if the deal was not right for the football club.

Re: Questions for the Club

When are the new season tickets sent out?

LongLostSon 19-07-2005 23:02

Re: Questions for the Club

A) If the home side doesn't play in red, do Stanley take red shirts on the bus or do they only get worn away from home if the hosts wear blue ?

B) pre-season opposition : does John get to arrange them from a manager's angle (rather than for prestige) and what's the thinking behind trialing players against superior teams against who we can't expect any confidence boosting string of wins ahead of the tough season about to start ? (genuine curiosity - no criticism implied).

rob 20-07-2005 06:55

Re: Questions for the Club

1, the new season tickets will be available to pick up before the start of the season, keep an eye on the website for an announcement when they arrive

2, as a general rule we will always play in red unless there is a clash with a home side when we are away from home

3, john coleman is ultimately responsible for the pre-season programme and we are delighted that we are now able to attract such strong sides from high level opposition. this also allows the management team to see how trialists, and indeed our own players perform against full time professionals. of course there is also a benefit in playing higher profile teams in that it brings in a little more gate money, which is very helpful to the club after two months of paying full time wages with no football income. there will be a number of other lower profile friendlies away from home before the start of the season, however i would suggest there is more confidence to be taken from a good performance against a championship side than there is in a series of wins over opposition from the lower leagues (or even another convincing win over the ultras!)

Re: Questions for the Club

The official Stanley website has won a prestigious award this year, which everyone can feel proud of. However, there are numerous occasions where I've read information on other sites (BBC, ConfGuide, etc), which has never been mentioned on the official site.

Would it be possible to keep the official site more accurately up-to-date with the latest goings-on at the club on a day-to-day basis, including injuries to players, etc?

I realise that anything extra involves using up precious time, but the official site should be at the cutting edge of club information. :)

rob 24-07-2005 12:24

Re: Questions for the Club

point taken, unfortunately sometimes things do get to the press before we get a chance to put them on the site, for example coley talked about the posibility of cav going for a scan in the near future to the bbc online journalist earlier this week, which is why it is on the bbc website.

fair point, will try harder to keep the stories coming :-)

According to the NLP and North West Counties website a fixture for Saturday 30th July 2005 is Blackpool Mechanics v Accrington Stanley. Is this game taking place, and if so, what sort of team is being sent for this game ?

Rob,

Undisclosed fees? why are they?

rob 29-07-2005 14:07

Re: Questions for the Club

simply because at least one club involved doesn't want to make it public knowledge, which to be honest is quite often because buyer doesn't want people thinking they're spending too much, or seller doesn't want people thinking they aren't getting enough. as stated earlier though, if a deal wasn't right for accrington stanley then it wouldn't happen.

Quite a few people mentioned over the last week or two that we have a new Mascot...Seemed to be even more common knowledge this weekend.. hmmm strange no mention to the fans ?

Fraser the Eagle.. I am "guessing" Fraser eagle already have a mascot and are sending it to games.. But thats only a guess...

Can you elaborate Rob ?

rob 31-07-2005 15:16

Re: Questions for the Club

fraser the eagle is still being finalised but will be 'launched' shortly, a brand new mascot developed and produced by our travel and youth education programme sponsors.

further details to follow, with info on first available photo opportunity to our club photographer as soon as we have it :-)

What about these ASFC Cheerleaders we have read about in the Observer. Its been quoted that they where started with the intention of appearing at the ground pre match and later stories in the Accy Obseverver also mention it.. Are the club going to have them at the ground ?

rob 04-08-2005 15:11

Re: Questions for the Club

season tickets - about the same - as expected really, room for a few more :-)

cheerleaders - a team from new era is currently working on this, and though they won't be ready for the start of the season it should all be in place shortly afterwards. the amount of hard work and effort that has gone into the setup is amazing and we are looking forward to seeing them shortly.

KIPAX 05-08-2005 18:59

Re: Questions for the Club

Has the club ever given any thought to a "Miss Accy Stanley" contest. A pretty face can sell anything and the winner would be able to help promote stanley in many ways. She would certainly be seen more times and by more people than the carnival queen.

I would of course be available to photograph the comp :) Hell I would even help judge it :tongue8:

Seriously though ?

Bottletop 06-08-2005 10:27

Re: Questions for the Club

Why doesn't the club have the long grass behind the cowsheds cut to make it easier for ball boys to find and retreive stray balls?

rob 06-08-2005 17:51

Re: Questions for the Club

1, miss accrington stanley - sounds like a great idea but with many of these things the problem is volunteers. we'd end up bending peoples arms to judge the contest, and if we couldn't get anyone i'd end up having to do it. sounds like a great idea, lets do it...

2, grass behind the goals - this really is a case of not enough volunteers to do the job. unfortunately anthony and the ground staff have their work cut out keeping the stadium in order. if anyone has a strimmer and a spare afternoon... it does have to be said that all our ball boys and girls do a superb job, all on a voluntary basis. and we never lose a ball!

Smiffy16 06-08-2005 22:00

Re: Questions for the Club

What about the idea of the club doing a official calendar, most other clubs do one and I'm sure we could use Kipax's pics and have like an individual player pic for each month??? just an idea plus it would make a bit of money for the club :)

rob 07-08-2005 08:30

Weekly draw results normally appear in the sport pages of L. E. T. on fri or sat however have not been in for at least last 2 weeks, has this been stopped for some reason?

Also Rob mate, you know the mini bookies we had for the FA Cup day? Are we carrying it on as said on the day for Stanley fixtures?

rob 07-08-2005 18:20

1, nobody signed yet but there will be news tomorrow morning

2, will have to find out about the weekly draw results in the lancashire evening telegraph, they are also available online at http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/i...weeklydraw.php

3, the application for a betting license is going through as we speak and as soon as we have it sorted we'll have a booth in the ground

Rob, can you tell me if any of the players are going to be involved with the current soccer school as they usually are because yesterday it was run by the youth team & I believe some of the kids were a bit disappointed

JEFF 09-08-2005 12:59

Re: Questions for the Club

What does this "Signed on non-contract basis" mean ? Does it mean that the player can leave any time he wants ?

Wynonie Harris 09-08-2005 13:20

Re: Questions for the Club

Why have we not offered Mangan a contract? Did Coley not rate him, or could he not agree terms?

rob 09-08-2005 13:59

Re: Questions for the Club

1, soccer school - steve jagielka and david brown have been involved in the soccer school, unfortunately we haven't had more first team players available with this being the last week of the pre-season schedule.

2, season tickets - sales are about the same as last year, around the 400 mark for the third year running.

3, non-contract - it can get a bit complicated, but in a nutshell: a player on non-contract terms is free to leave at any time, and the club is also able to release the player at any time. should another club wish to sign a non-contract player they must inform the player's current club by giving seven days notice of their intent to talk to the player. having said this, michael welch is expected to shortly sign a contract with the club.

4, forwards - we are expecting to sign a forward before the end of the week.

new rules for refs include sending a player off.. straight red.. for dissent, swearing at ref etc.........is this and other new rules also going to apply to non league or just league and prem.

rob 11-08-2005 14:54

Re: Questions for the Club

nearly all changes to the rules now apply to throughout football at all levels, although i don't think these are strictly rule changes, more a case of ensuring referees apply the existing ones more stringently.

the players had a talk from a local referee a couple of weeks ago and are aware of all the updates to the rules.

Why no VMI trophy this season. Both clubs have had the time and both play at the IES so why not contested. It says on the Harwood website that they have been trying to arrange it.

What's the situation with Lee Hunt from Rhyl? Is there still a chance he could come to us, or is that deal now dead in the water?

yes, though there are only a handful of burnley reserves matches, and with great harwood dropping down to division 2 of the north west counties league they also have less matches then usual.

it was previously known as the thwaites stand but was changed at the start of the season following a deal with beer supplier john smiths in the sports bar.
