Stanley striker Lee McEvilly has signed for Wrexham for an undisclosed fee.
Why an undiscloed fee ? Why not let us know what is going on, how much have we got for him ? Why all the secrecy ? Was it an offer too good to refuse ?
Are the supporters not entitled to know the answers to these questions after all it is us that pay week after week to support the team. It is not very good public relations keeping secrets from the fans, no wonder people get fed up and the attendances fall.

Re: Lee gone

because can you not trust the club that they would not have let Lee go for anything less than what they valued him at? have a bit of trust!!!

wrexham 07-07-2005 11:49

Re: Lee gone

The fee was 25k.

Whalley Red 07-07-2005 11:51

Re: Lee gone

I would imagine that it's a deal that involves payments for number of first-team appearances, plus a percentage of any future transfer fee, etc. I'm sure Eric got the best deal for the club, he has always done so.

But money is one thing, the prospect of losing o ur two most creative players is another :(

KIPAX 07-07-2005 11:59

Re: Lee gone

Wrexham and Stanley have NOT disclosed the fee.. Anything posted on here is pure specualtion, guesswork or rumour...

Unless you can quote a source then don't quote a fee!

John_Timmins 07-07-2005 12:00

25k (if that is true) source http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/t12916-lee-gone.html post #5 :p

where the f*ck has that come from, from a club in administration

How about the assistant manager of the club who signed him as a source :D

What did they value him at ? We have no idea.
If the fee was disclosed then it might soften the blow of not having him next season.

Re: Lee gone

If the fee being talked about (£25K) is true, this beggers belief. Why on earth would the club sell on of its top players for such a paltry sum? I would have estimated that his worth to our club would be at least £100K in terms of goals and general creativity.

He is, after all, a young international who is still improving.

KIPAX 07-07-2005 13:26

Re: Lee gone

Sigh... It really does begger belief... wrexham... tell em its christmas tommorow and they will all buy you a prezzie :)

OLDHAMADE 07-07-2005 13:53

Re: Lee gone

£25K for a player like McEvilly is a joke, reminds me of that £50k offer we received for Twiss and how that was answered by both manager & the board, told to shove it where the sun don't shine i'd guess.

Now you've lost two of your best players, where do you see yourselves ending up?

Can you improve on your good form of last season?

wrexham 07-07-2005 14:17

Its the truth. How much money do you think we have to spend? We ARE in administration you know.

Best of luck Lee... you must have been desperate to get away.

Look forward to seeing you in the North of the county in due course.

Now what's this about Craney I hear?

All the best for the future Lee, really sorry to see you go

wrexham 07-07-2005 15:03

Re: Lee gone

Don't really know how it works, but we got special dispensation from the administrators to sign Lee for 25k - I think it's because we made money last year what with winning the LDV and all. Anyway, best of luck for the season - hope to see you in the FL soon.

Fed up of all these cryptic comments and frowning faces. Could somebody please tell us the circumstances concerning Evil's transfer? Or are we, the ordinary fans, just going to be left in the dark?

Cafu01 07-07-2005 16:22

If its undisclosed the club doesnt want the details being announced.

He has signed a 1 year deal anyway so he might come back next season ;)

I'm not asking about the size of the fee. I'm just wondering why you seem to be implying that there's no fee at all.

1 year? is that it! Im really gutted to see him leave...:( I feel if he stayed just one more year we culd have been back where we belong but it was not to be! I hope we now use the money to buy a replacement for next season....

Wynonie Harris 07-07-2005 17:26

What money? Cafu reckons that since Wrexham are in administration, they haven't paid a transfer fee, so there's no money!

Re: Lee gone

i for one am absolutely gutted about him leaving he was our driving force last year and without him i just hope coley has somebody else coming in to add that bite to our team which we often lacked before evil arrived.......but its football so onwards and upwards and good luck to him hope to see him back at the IES in the future!!!

:( :( ;) ;) Being so far away you tend to forget things, it must be summer holidays time and the schools have kicked out so the kids take over the threads, oh well time to sign off untill the season starts.

A club in administration isnt usually allowed to pay any transfer fee's .. HOWEVER this doesnt mean that there is no money involved, we could get some when/if they do come out of administration.

He has signed a 1 year deal because thats the only length of contract all clubs in administration can offer to new players

Wynonie Harris 07-07-2005 19:14

So why didn't you say that in the first place, instead of all this "put two and two together" cloak-and-dagger stuff?!!

Re: Lee gone

Wrexham have completed the signing of Lee McEvilly from Conference side Accrington Stanley.

The 23-year-old has been looking for a new club after being released by Stanley at the end of the season.

McEvilly has signed a one-year deal at the Racecourse Ground.

The Northern Ireland international is the second new face at Wrexham following the recent arrival of Lee Roche.

It says after being released by Stanley......... any imput?

If they have signed him from us, he cant have been released, I think they got mixed up somewhere along the line ;)

Re: Lee gone

more great news, thers no chance of a fee being revealed by stanley as normal.

Thats only in my opinion our 2 best players gone for peanuts, hopefully J.C can pull of a major CASH signing, cant see it myself tho.

LongLostSon 08-07-2005 18:54

Re: Lee gone

whatever the fee situation, it would make no sense for Stanley to let other clubs know we might have a bob or two when we may be in the buying market ourselves. Sorry to see the lad go, but hey, what can we expect if we develop a half-decent player while outside the top 4 divisions.

denise 08-07-2005 21:40

Re: Lee gone

If Lee has gone for £25k, that is prob a good deal. O.K he is a superb player, but it would have cost Stanley more in fines for his fouls and language ................ lol

Re: Lee gone

Just thought I'd let you guy's know - Evil came on in the 2nd half of our friendly against L'pool. Looked a real threat, scored a good goal and generally knocked a few premiership primadonna's about! Very promising debut.

Bagpuss 09-07-2005 21:06

Re: Lee gone

It was a good goal, whatever you paid for him you got a bargain.

Re: Lee gone

I've just read the Wrexham website and some quotes by their manager Denis Smith.

I find it incredible that there is no fee involved. What's going on there?

MikeA 09-07-2005 21:56

Re: Lee gone

The Wrexham site has Lee down as a 'free' (http://www.wrexhamafc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/BreakingNewsDetail/0,,10311~679880,00.html), unlike the Accy Observer (http://www.accringtonobserver.co.uk/sport/stanley/news/s/201/201663_all_eyes_on_evil.html) which talks of an undisclosed sum, a hefty sell on clause and more cash for international appearances.

I can't imagine the Observer making all that up but maybe Rob could clarify things.
