Accy 1 v 1 Wigan

Having seen all the pre season friendlies bar Cardiff.. I have to say I was getting a little worried as to be frank we have been dire..

But tonight was a massive difference... great game by everyone... we looked a far better side than we have been doing and things look a lot better now... Roll on the 13th :)

Did they bring a strong squad has they said?
Result looks good to me if they did

Re: Accy 1 v 1 Wigan

There were at least 9 first teamers on the pitch in the second half and 7 in the first half. Most played the full 90 minutes and to be fair, Accy played them of the park. Hit the bar and the post and restricted them to some long range efforts worthy of that other wigan team - The Warriors - I thought he match was played in a good spirit and a fair result I suppose. But there again, I am biased. BTW the above statistics are from a Wigan athletic fan who I travelled with. and wasn't the journey home just peachy

Just a quick thought, what did everyone think of Rodney Jacks. I thought he looked lively in the first half until subbed. Would like to know what JC thinks though - Do other people think he might be worth signing - looked like Lutel in some respects

Re: Accy 1 v 1 Wigan

Agreed with everything here. Anthony Barry made a big difference in central midfield and with Rodney Jack up front, we looked like a team that was very comfortable on the ball. He also reminded me of Lutel and would certainly be a very good addition. I was also impressed with Lee Hunt up front as well.

BTW who was our no.18? It didn't look like Tretton, unless he's had a rather drastic haircut. I thought he played a blinder!

Who was our number 18, he is playing a blinder..... A question I heard many times on the night...

I agree that tonight was a massive improvement on other pre-season games. I wasn't bothered about the result, but the way we played was far more promising.

I did know the name of the 18, but it's slipped my mind (old age and poverty), but I was also impressed by the lad who came on up front towards the end. Was his name Hunt?

Re: Accy 1 v 1 Wigan

The sub who played up front was Lee Hunt, a very promising player from Rhyl.

Thanks WR. I knew it was something like that.

The 18 I think was Liam Richardson.

Definately a much improved performance from Stanley, at last I feel more optimistic about the coming season. I think the no. 18 was a lad called Michael Welsh from Macclesfield, Liam Richardson was playing in the no. 3 shirt.

As a 'newbie' fan to Stanley, I thought the standard of play was very impressive, and bodes well for the start of the season. The energy Jack showed in the first half, would make a good adition to the squad I think.

What I think is more impressive though, is the atmosphere at The Ultra. You are like a great big family, and I am lovin' it. Thanks for making me welcome.

Unless I'm going deaf, attendance was seven hundred and fifty ONE, see aren't you glad I came!

Highlight Number 1- Mullins well executed penalty in the back of the net.

Highlight Number 2- Evil splashin' his cream in my coffee before the match for me, and him saying, whilst looking at the burgers on offer, he 'fancied some cheese on his meat tonight'. WINK. Priceless.

Looks like I missed the best pre-season match so far. Ah well - such is life. See you all Saturday.

Re: Accy 1 v 1 Wigan

Stanley last night looked a different team than the first Friendly against Cardiff (only two friendlys ive got to) and was great to be able to spend most of the match one nil up against a premiership team

Craney looked very lively and had a few good shots, Mullin and Jacks seemed to play well together and the whole team looked lively

Only thing was that the attendence was crap!!! I know its a Friendly but its still a premiership team so i would have thought it would have been better

But after that performance bring on Canvey

can we just clear up a slight flaw

it's Rodney Jack not Rodney Jacks FFS

Re: Accy 1 v 1 Wigan

Michael Welch has been on trial at Stockport County and has played in three of their five pre-season friendles. He had been named in the side for Tuesday's game, but was missing from the line-up in the match report. So maybe he is available, but we will know shortly as County boss, Graham Turner, has today sold his keeper to Rotherham and is hoping to use the money to bring in two new players ahead of Saturday's league opener with Mansfield.

From today's Stockport Express:
He has impressed significantly during pre-season, but fellow trialist Michael Welch has been released. “Michael has received three offers from Conference clubs so I think it’s unfair to keep him hanging on here,” added Turner

From Rhyl's sites:

Lee Hunt - DOB: 5th June 1981

Liverpudlian Lee first made his mark in the WPL with Bangor City for whom he scored 19 goals in 45 league appearances before joining Rhyl in 2003. Hunt made an immediate impact playing up front with Andy Moran, his pace and skill helping him score in each of his first six matches. Lee is a fans favourite and won the fans player of the year award in 2003/2004.

Signed from Bangor City, Lee is an exciting, pacy young striker who terrorises defences currently occupying a top 10 slot in the highest goalscorers table of the League of Wales. Has also played for Helsby of the West Cheshire League. Fast becoming one of the fans' favourites at Belle Vue through his incredible workrate and flat refusal to give up if he sees the smallest opportunity.

and

14th July 2005 FK Atlantas (Lithuania) UEFA Cup Q1,1 Home 2-1 Hunt(2) 1570

Match report is at http://www.rhylfc.co.uk/Matchday/reports/0506/atlan14705/14705.shtml. Hunt didn't play in the away leg. Rhyl are due to play their next UEFA Cup match against Roy Hodgson's Viking FK on 11 August.

Lee Hunt was in the same side as Gary Roberts at both Bangor City and Rhyl.

Thanks for that MikeA :)

Let's hope we can beat off the other two conference clubs for his signature. He certainly looked like he had played at a higher standard.

That is certainly how he played in the 10 minutes or so that he had last night. Rodney Jack looked much skillful on the ball and we kept posession well with him, but I can see Lee Hunt also being a very good partner for Mullin - he is not the fastest player in the league, is he? ;)

Good stuff once again Mike.

To be honest, I'd like to see all three of those players signing for us this week.

Fingers crossed. ;)

LOL anybody read the report in LET tonight basically saying that Jack is a shadow of his former self and basically calling him crap

they must have been watching a different game to most of us then?

Re: Accy 1 v 1 Wigan

Michael Welch looked like a centre half and he played like a centre half. He looked confident and appeared commanding even when he wasn't involved. I hope we manage to sign him, if he always plays like he did on Wednesday I think he could sove our defensive problems. Football League here we come.

Re: Accy 1 v 1 Wigan

Rhyl fans seem to really really rate Hunt...

Check out their messageboards on www.rhylfc.com and www.rhylfans.co.uk

Looks like a perfect replacement for Evil, same type of player it seems....
