Winstanley

Who (and why?) put the name around Winstanleys neck and shortened it to Winstan ... I am sure it was Winstanley?

Winstanley is the small furry bulldog placed on the center circle before all home games.. Its winstanley and someone has made what loks like a cardboard sign to hang around its neck with winstan on it..

theres a framed pic of it in the clubhouse.. but for now look here

its been used for a long time

Must be a Sun reader who did it. Three syllables are obviously too much for him . . . and if he thought he we was being clever with the Churchill connection, he can't spell Winston either !

Definitely a candidate for the dog-house.

Re: Winstanley

Its the original mascot for accy stanley.. When we came up with the idea of a proper mascot we originally wanted a bulldog and call it winstanley.. to carry on the tradition. However a decent mascot suite costs over 2k as bottletop found out when he took on the task of getting quotes :) We ended up with a Monkey because it was free and the name seemed appropriate for the club as winstanley the monkey didnt go..

Now we are to have Frazer the eagle.. because thats free... and even furthur from being a bulldog... oh well ... never look a gift horse/monkey/eagle in the mouth eh :)

Re: Winstanley

It’s terrible isn’t it? Perhaps someone could make up a decent dog tag for Winstanley on the computer before the 27th.

Off thread I know, but was the News of the World billed for the Helicopter billboard…….Perhaps if there going to do that on a regular basis they could have a good will message for Stanley or at least fly a Stanley flag at the same time……….

Re: Winstanley

It doesn't need a tag... It should just be left as it has been for years.... IMHO that is :)

well even though it was the height of tackiness it served a purpose that after over 3 years of going to stanley I now know what the flippin dog in middle's called, so job done!!!! :D

Re: Winstanley

i won't name the person, suffice to say a nameless volunteer who took the bulldog home over the summer to wash it put the name tag on, a lady who has been a season ticket holder for many years longer than most of us at stanley.

to be honest i didn't see the name tag, but i don't really think there was any need to be quite so aggressive? fortunately i don't think she looks at the internet...

:-(

Re: Winstanley

Sorry Rob but when somehtings wrong then its wrong... being a long standing season ticket holder and doing it out of the goodness of there heart doesnt make it any less wrong... being old or being young is also a petty excuse thats used all the time.

I can guess who it was then and I am glad she hasnt read this thread as no one wants to insult the person who did it .... in fact i dont see anyone insulting the person that did it.....only the deed :)

Re: Winstanley

Probably and if any of mine where then I apologise... I admit it was at the back of my mind that it was probably one of the young lads who work there and didn't know any better :)
